Key Stats

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are coming off a rough showing in the opening game of the series, losing 6-2. The lineup struggled to get much going as the team went 7-for-33 with three walks and eight strikeouts. Ben Rice was the only Yankee to record an extra-base hit as he hit a triple while Jazz Chisholm Jr. recorded a stolen base. The lineup struggled as they were 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position as well. Carlos Rodon struggled at times but still managed to throw six innings while also giving up six runs (five earned) in a losing effort.

Veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco is going to be taking the mound for the Yankees and is not doing well as in two games (one start), he is 1-0 with a 7.36 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP over the course of 7.1 innings. Hitters are teeing off of his pitches as he currently has a .323 batting average against entering Tuesday’s game.  Carrasco faced the Tigers once last season as a member of the Cleveland Guardians and in a losing effort allowed six runs on nine hits with zero walks and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

Detroit Tigers

\"Detroit

The Detroit Tigers are coming into this game with momentum after a 6-2 home win on Monday. Detroit was 5-for-28 at the plate as a team with five walks to 10 strikeouts. Andy Ibanez hit his first home run of the season while Javier Baez was caught stealing. The Tigers were 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded five men on base. Casey Mize was excellent in this start as he allowed one run in six innings to improve to 2-0 on the year while the bullpen held things down.

Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal will be getting the start as he off to a rocky start. He is 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in 10.2 innings over his first two starts. Skubal is having issues with the long ball as he has given up three already after only allowing 15 in all of 2024. He faced the Yankees twice last season and was 0-0 in 12.0 innings and gave up three runs on nine hits with four walks and 17 strikeouts.

Prediction

These lineups were able to plate across eight runs in the opening game of the series and that was with the Yankees struggling at the plate and snow falling throughout the game. Carlos Carrasco is a veteran pitcher, but this Tigers lineup has seen him numerous times while Tarik Skubal does not look like his form from last season. The over has hit in seven of the first 10 games for New York and six of the first 10 Detroit games this season so expect the lineups to score well enough.

Final Pick

Over 7.5 Runs (+100)
