Location: Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York
D. Peterson (L) vs. M. Fried (L)
Where to Watch: ESPN
The New York Mets tied up the series with the New York Yankees on Saturday with a 3-2 victory. With the score tied 2-2, Francisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly to score a run in the top of the ninth. The Yankees had some quality defensive plays throughout the game to keep it close, but ultimately could not find the groove on offense. The rubber match is scheduled for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, with the Yankees sending 6-0 Max Fried to the mound. Can the Yankees take the series, or will the Mets play spoiler?

Key Stats
New York Mets
The New York Mets’ offense hasn’t been able to find its footing at Yankee Stadium. However, timely hitting and great pitching helped them win yesterday. Juan Soto picked up his first hit of the series, and the team as a whole drew six walks yesterday. Two of the three runs were scored via sacrifice flies in yesterday’s game. With the ERA leader on the mound in the finale, the Mets may have to continue to manufacture runs if they are to take the series.
Left-hander David Peterson takes the mound in the rubber match for the New York Mets. In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he threw six innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs, and three walks. He did strike out seven batters in a 4-3 win. May has not been kind to him so far. In two starts, he has pitched 12.0 innings, giving up nine hits and four earned runs. His away split also might be a concern for the Mets. In three away starts, he has given up 18 hits, six earned runs, seven walks, and three home runs.
New York Yankees
In the first game, the trio of Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt combined for seven of the eight New York Yankees hits. It was the opposite in game two. That trio went 1 for 12, the only hit being Bellinger’s solo home run in the sixth inning. DJ LeMahieu was the surprise contributor on Saturday, going 2 for 4. One of those hits was a solo home run in the third inning to get the scoring started.
Max Fried will try to pick up his seventh win of the season against the Mets on Sunday night. In his last start against the Seattle Mariners, he gave up four hits and one earned run, while striking out five. His 1.11 ERA is best in the majors, with Houston Astros pitcher Hunter Brown currently at 1.43. This will be his sixth home start of the year. In the previous five starts, he has pitched for a total of 31.1 innings, giving up 23 hits and only five earned runs.

Prediction
Over the first two games, the New York Yankees have been the better team. The New York Mets have had to work for every run, and they now have to face the ERA leader. Peterson has had issues on the road with control and giving up runs. While I’m not sure the trio of Judge, Bellinger, and Goldschmidt will dominate like they did in game one, they shouldn’t be as bad as they were in game two (which the team only lost by one). I’ve got the Yankees lineup flexing their muscles in this one and Fried picking up his seventh win.
