The New York Mets wrap up a three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. New York continued their offensive woes, only getting four hits despite starting pitcher Walker Buehler getting tossed in the third inning. Boston was able to score two in the fifth and get the save for their second win in a row. Can the Red Sox complete the sweep, or will the Mets’ bats wake up in the series finale?

Key Stats
New York Mets
The New York Mets’ offense is now a huge concern. While the pitching has continued to limit the number of runs by opponents, the offense can’t get any timely hits. The team went 0 for 7 with RISP. Pete Alonso is only 1 for 7 in the series, and Brandon Nimmo is 0 for 8. While Juan Soto is getting much of the backlash, he at least has one hit in each game this series.
Right-hander Tylor Megill takes the mound for the New York Mets in the series finale. In his last outing, he only lasted 2.2 innings against the New York Yankees, giving up four hits and four earned runs while issuing five walks. Megill has not had a good month. In three starts, he has only pitched 12.1 innings, but has given up 15 hits and 12 earned runs, while also walking 10 batters.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox continued to get great production out of Rafael Devers. He homered in last night’s game, accounting for one of the two Red Sox runs. In the last seven days, he has seven hits, five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, and seven RBIs. He has also drawn four walks. His ability to get on base and make things happen has helped Boston get back to .500 on the season.
Left-hander Garrett Crochet takes the mound for the Boston Red Sox in the series finale. In his last start against the Atlanta Braves, he pitched 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits and two solo home runs, but did strike out eight. Crochet has been solid in the month of May. In three starts, he has pitched 19.0 innings, giving up 18 hits, but only four earned runs. He is catching the Mets lineup at a good time and could go deep into another game.

Prediction
The New York Mets can’t figure it out right now. They are 4-6 in their last 10 and haven’t been able to take advantage of a hitter-friendly ballpark. Their pitching has held the Boston Red Sox to minimal runs to keep them in games, but they can’t come up with the big hit. I’m betting on Crochet today. He’s been fabulous in the month of May, and the bullpen has held the lead in two straight games.
