Game Details: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 @ 6:45 pm EST
Location: Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts
C. Holmes (R) vs. W. Buehler (R)
Where to Watch: TBS
The New York Mets head to Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox in a three-game series. The Mets lost two out of three in the Subway Series against the New York Yankees. Boston lost two out of three at home to the Atlanta Braves. Both teams will look to get back on track in this series. These are two of the top offenses in the majors, so there should be plenty of fireworks coming out of Fenway. Can the Red Sox slow down the Mets’ offense and get some runs off their elite pitching?

Key Stats
New York Mets
The New York Mets’ offense is becoming a bit of a concern. They’ve lost four out of their last five and are playing .500 ball over the last 10. Their season average of runs is well over four per game, but the last week and a half has been a different story. In the last 10 games, they are only averaging 3.20 runs per game. While the pitchers continue to keep them in the game, the offense hasn’t been able to push runs across. They were 1 for 8 with RISP in last night’s loss.
Right-hander Clay Holmes takes the mound in game two, looking to get the team back on track. In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he pitched 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits, four earned runs, and two home runs while striking out only four batters. The month of May has not been kind to Holmes. In three starts, he has pitched 18.0 innings, giving up 18 hits, eight earned runs, and three home runs.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox probably gave their fans a few gray hairs last night. Overall, the offense felt in control of the game, but they could never get the big hit when it mattered most. They only went 1 for 11 with RISP, leaving the door open for the Mets. The bullpen held down the fort for the team to pick up a good win. Leadoff hitter Jarren Duran led the way, going 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.
Right-hander Walker Buehler is making his first start for the Boston Red Sox in almost a month. A shoulder injury sidelined the pitcher, but manager Alex Cora has indicated he will rejoin the rotation on Tuesday. His last start was on April 26th against the Cleveland Guardians. He pitched for 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out three.

Prediction
The New York Mets are in a funk. It’s never great when you have to tell your star player to hustle out of the box. It’s interesting that the odds are basically the same as yesterday’s game except the Mets are now +1.5. The tough part about riding the Red Sox in this one is that they are sending a pitcher out who we haven’t seen pitch in a month. However, in baseball, I tend to ride the trends. The Mets’ offense stinks right now. I’ll happily take the plus-odds for the Boston moneyline
