While three of the four Wild Card Series were sweeps, luckily for the MLB, we still get one win-or-go-home game. The New York Mets dominated game one with an 8-4 victory and it looked like they had game two in the bag. But off two home runs, the Brewers won game two and have taken us into a win-or-go-home game three with the winner going on to face the Phillies in the Division Series. This is the purest form of baseball as in a win or go home, anything can happen.
New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Start’em
New York Mets 3B Mark Vientos($8,200 on DraftKings)
The Met’s third baseman has come out of nowhere in 2024 at a position where the Mets desperately needed somebody too. Vientos has absolutely over-delivered with a fantastic 2024 and he even hits third for the Mets every day. Vientos has three hits in the series with two runs batted in to go with that.
Vientos sits at a great place in the lineup has he normally hits right in front of Pete Alonso and two spots behind Fransisco Lindor. Teams can’t pitch around him and Vientos has taken full advantage. This price point is rather high but this has great value as Vientos has proven all year that he over-delivers.
Milwaukee Brewers 2B Brice Turang($7,600 on DraftKings)
The Brewers’ second baseman has been a major surprise with how great he has been in this series. Turang hit leadoff in game one because the Mets threw out a right-handed starter and hit ninth because a lefty pitcher started in game two. Turang is four for eight in the series with an outstanding OPS.
Because the New York Mets are starting lefty Jose Quintana tonight, Turang should be hitting in the ninth hole again and will have fewer at-bats then if he was leadoff, that doesn’t mean to stay away. In do-or-die games, the starters have the shortest of leashes which means he probably won’t see a lefty every at-bat. With the way Turang is swinging the bat, definitely hop on this underrated bandwagon.
New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Sit’em
New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso($8,800 on DraftKings)
Tonight could end up being the last game for Alonso in a New York Mets uniform. With all of that pressure, Alonso has not been playing well at least at the plate. Alonso is four for his last 38 at bats which is an average barely above .100. The at bats that he has had so far in this series haven’t excited anyone and while his defense has been exceptional so far this series, that doesn’t help DFS players whatsoever. With how high of a price point this is, I would stay away from the Polar Bear who has the coldest bat on the Mets.
Milwaukee Brewers 1B Rhys Hoskins($7,400 on DraftKings)
Hoskins is in hist first season in Milwaukee and delivered another 25 plus homer season. Hoskins made some major moments in the Phillies run to get to the World Series in 2022. But this has not been a great stretch for the first basemen. Hoskins is known for his power and when he gets in these type of homerless droughts, that means there isn’t much to offer as it pertains to fantasy.
While the Brewers will be seeing a left handed starting pitcher, Quintana is a ground ball pitcher which makes it a tough matchup for a player who wants to drive balls out of the ballpark. With the recent struggles for Hoskins, it’s tough to see Hoskins getting that big moment tonight.
