NBA DFS Main Slate Preview: The Coach’s Starting Five, March 20, 2025

dfs nba

NBA DFS rolls into Thursday night with just a five-game slate. The Coach is here with his starting five and authentic insight from ‘inside the ropes’. The NBA’s daily fantasy landscape is ever-changing, with last-minute injury designations and load management. Last night’s recap: FanDuel’s $10k main slate pay line finished at 332.5 points and the starting five was hurt by Darius Garland being made a late inactive due to rest. The other four starters produced  148.9 fantasy points.

The starting lineup is designed to provide a core five around which you can construct your NBA DFS builds. We strive to recommend players who have the potential to be less owned and build an NBA DFS roster different from the masses. Your prominent studs are not always mentioned and the fantasy point-per-game averages referenced are those across FanDuel scoring. See who the coach has in his NBA DFS starting lineup this evening.

NBA DFS Starting Guards

Damian Lillard ($8.5k DraftKings and $8.8k FanDuel)

The obvious play tonight at point guard is Luka Doncic, but we will pivot and go with Damian Lillard. The Lakers-Bucks game posts the small point spread and the second-highest implied game total. Dame is a GTD but is expected to play, so keep close tabs on his status. He will need to be on his game tonight versus Doncic. Dame ranks as the overall PG7, posting 42.52 fantasy points per game. The matchup is fair as the Lakers rank 12th in production and are allowed to point guard. Dame may go under-owned playing opposite Luka tonight.

Miles McBride ($5.8k DraftKings and $6.2k FanDuel)

Miles McBride will start at shooting guard tonight. The Knicks combo guard gives us roster flexibility and can used in either guard spot. Despite pedestrian fantasy numbers in his last two starts, McBride is seeing 33 minutes per game over his last five contests and posted at least 32 fantasy points in three of those five. The Hornets defensively are middle of the road in production allowed to the shooting guard position. At just $6.2k, McBride represents a nice DFS value play and is worth the risk. Please note, that McBride is a GTD with a groin injury.

Bench Options: Josh Giddey, D’Angelo Russell, Colby White, Immanuel Quickley

NBA DFS Starting Forwards

Austin Reaves ($9.1k DraftKings and $8.7k FanDuel)

Austin Reaves will start at small forward tonight, in what is forecasted to be a terrific fantasy environment. With LeBron James declared out, Reaves should continue to see an excellent usage rate. He is playing nearly 38 minutes and averaging 55.58 fantasy points per game over his last four starts. Reaves has the potential for another big outing tonight and his NBA DFS price tag reflects that.

Draymond Green ($6.3k DraftKings and $6.7k FanDuel)

Draymond Green gets the nod again in the starting lineup this evening. Green to us is mispriced and a super value. He checks multiple statistical boxes every night and always possesses dual-position eligibility. Tuesday night Green delivered 37 fantasy points and over his last four games is averaged 34.7 fantasy points, 6 boards, and 4 dimes per game. Tonight he faces the Raptors who allow the 10th most fantasy points to power forwards. We do have blowout concerns with Golden State a double-digit favorite tonight, but at $6.7k we are in on Green!

Bench Options: Miles Bridges, DeMar DeRozan, Scottie Barnes

NBA DFS Starting Center

Jonas Valanciunas ($7.7k DraftKings and $7.4k FanDuel)

Jonas Valanciunas will man the center spot tonight with Sacramento still missing Domantis Sabonis. We needed to get some exposure to the Kings-Bulls tilt that boasts a slate-high 233 implied game total. Valanciunas gets the green light facing Chicago who ranks 29th in fantasy points allowed to centers and Sacramento possesses the highest implied team total this evening. Last night minus Sabonis, he dropped a double-double with 28.6 fantasy points. The potential there for more tonight.

Bench Options: Myles Turner, Brooke Lopez, Jacob Poeltl

Final Thoughts

The obvious studs are not always mentioned. Our bench options provide followers, much the same as a coach, additional green light plays, injury replacements, and flexibility for your NBA DFS build. We strive to balance studs and value plays that may be potentially less owned. Pay attention to implied team and game totals and try to get roster exposure to those games.

The top DFS builds will consist of the right balance between studs and value options that pay at least 5x-6x their salaries. Good luck with your roster builds, and please like and follow us on social mediaPlease double-check our player recommendations once all inactives are announced.
