Key Stats
Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers are stepping up on the offensive side of the game as they are 11th in the sport with a .250/.319/.421 team slash line while averaging 4.88 runs per game. Their lineup is more stationary as they are last in baseball with 58 stolen bases while being caught 15 times. Left fielder Riley Greene has been hitting well as he posted a .829 OPS with 32 home runs, 104 RBI, 78 runs scored, and two steals on three attempts.
Right-hander Jack Flaherty is going to be taking the mound for the Detroit Tigers for Wednesday’s game and is struggling thus far as he is 7-13 with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 146.2 innings of work. He is struggling to keep the ball in the park as hitters have 22 home runs after giving up 24 in 162.0 innings in 2024. Flaherty faced the Yankees once this season in a no-decision as he pitched 5.1 shutout innings and allowed three hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are hitting at an incredible level as they are leading baseball with a .782 team OPS while scoring 5.22 runs per game up to this point. The Yankees are going to be sending southpaw Carlos Rodon to pitch here and is 16-7 with a 3.12 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in 170.1 innings pitched right now. Hitters are not getting too many hits against him as he has a .187 opposing batting average right now. Prediction
These teams are going to be playoff teams, but two veteran pitchers should be able to limit the amount of runs scored against them. Jack Flaherty and Carlos Rodon should be able to silence the bats. It also helps that these teams scored a combined four runs if the seventh inning meltdown by the Yankees bullpen is taken out. I know you can’t take it away, but these pitching staffs looked better than the lineups. All in all, go with the under.
