The baseball season has just begun, but it is never too early to take a look at the top OFs. Here is a breakdown of the top 10 overall, the next 10 to keep an eye on, and 10 that are worth a spot on your roster.
Top 10 MLB OFs
- Aaron Judge (Yankees): Stats say it all: 58 home runs and 144 RBIs. He already has six home runs this season and 20 RBI. Plus, he stole 10 bases last season and has already this season.
- Juan Soto (Mets): He had 41 home runs and 109 RBIs batting in front of Judge last season. After signing a big contract in Queens, he is still adjusting, with two home runs and six RBIs.
- Mookie Betts (Dodgers): He was taken in the first round of most drafts because he is a shortstop now, but he probably would have gone that high as just an outfielder. He was banged up last year but still finished with 19 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. He already has four home runs and 10 RBIs.
- Kyle Tucker (Cubs): He only had 277 at-bats last season but signed a huge deal with Chicago. He already has five home runs and 18 RBIs for the surprising Cubs.
- Yordan Alvarez (Astros): He had 35 home runs and 86 RBIs last season and is expected to be even better this season. He is one of the reasons Houston let Tucker walk.
- Corbin Carroll (Diamondbacks): The 24-year-old had 22 home runs and 74 RBIs last season to go along with 35 stolen bases. He already has five home runs and 10 RBIs this season.
- Jackson Chourio (Brewers): The 21-year-old hit 21 home runs, drove in 79 runs, and stole 22 bases a year ago. He already has five home runs and 17 RBIs this season.
- Fernando Tatis Jr. (Padres): The former infielder was injured for much of last season but has bounced back already for one of the hottest teams in baseball. He has six home runs, 12 RBIs, and six stolen bases.
- Jackson Merrill (Padres): He is currently in the IL with a hamstring issue, but he has already hit three home runs and driven in 10 runs.
- Anthony Santander (Blue Jays): He signed a huge deal with Toronto after hitting 44 home runs and driving in 102 runs for the Orioles. He is off to a slow start with just one home run and three RBIs but should heat up soon.
OFs on the Brink
- Jose Altuve (Astros): After being a star at 2B for years, he moved to the outfield last season. He had 20 home runs, 65 RBI, and 22 stolen bases last season. He has three home runs and seven RBI so far this season. Plus, he is also still eligible at 2B.
- Mike Trout (Angels): The 33-year-old was touted as one of the all-time great players for years, but injuries have made him nowhere near as valuable as many thought he would be. The good news is that he has 14 RBIs already. It took him all of 2024 to get that many.
- James Wood (Nationals): The 22-year-old is thought to be the next Juan Soto. He had nine home runs, 41 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases last season and already has five home runs and 12 RBIs this season.
- Jarren Duran (Red Sox): He had 21 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases last season. He doesn’t have a home run yet this season, but he has driven in eight runs and stolen five bases.
- Brendan Donovan (Cardinals): Being eligible at 2B makes him even more valuable. Between the two positions, he is a full-time starter. He had 14 home runs and 73 RBIs as a part-timer last season. He already has two home runs and 11 RBIs this season.
- Ronald Acuna (Braves): One of the best players in the game – a first-round pick in most drafts last year – was injured early last season. However, he is on track to be back next month.
- Jazz Chisholm Jr. (Yankees): New York signed him last year to give them a spark down the stretch in many positions. He has now settled in at 3B. After a 24 home run, 73 RBIs, and 40 stolen base season last year, he already has six, 11, and four.
- Wyatt Langford (Rangers): He was off to a good start with four home runs and six RBIs early before landing on the IL. It is unsure how long his oblique strain will keep him out.
- Cody Bellinger (Yankees): He was signed to protect Judge after Soto left, but since being a star with the Dodgers early in his career, his numbers have fallen. Still, he now is in a lineup with Judge, so he may be able to improve on his 18 home runs and 78 RBIs from last season.
- Teoscar Hernandez (Dodgers): He had 33 home runs, 99 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases last season. He is 32 but has never played on a better team.
Who are these Guys?
- Jung Hoo Lee (Giants): San Francisco is off to a great start, and Lee has been in the middle of it. He was hurt coming out of spring training but has three home runs, 11 RBIs, and three stolen bases so far.
- Seiya Suzuki (Cubs): Chicago is off to a big start on offense, and Suzuki has been a big part of that. He had 21 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases last season and already has four home runs and 15 RBIs.
- Tommy Edman (Dodgers): He is starting in center field for Los Angeles but is also eligible at 2B and SS. He already has as many home runs as he had last season (six) and has 14 RBIs.
- Wilyer Abreu (Red Sox): The 25-year-old had a solid year last season and now has three home runs and 12 RBIs this season.
- Cedric Mullins (Orioles): After being an All-Star in 2023, he slumped to 18 home runs and 54 RBIs last season. He did have 32 stolen bases a year ago. He has three home runs and 16 RBIs so far this season.
- Ian Happ (Cubs): He had a solid season last year with 25 home runs, 86 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases. He only has one home run and eight RBIs in the early going.
- Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs): Known as PCA, he is one of the fastest players in the league. Broke out with 10 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 27 stolen bases in just 372 at-bats last season. He already has two home runs, eight RBI, and seven stolen bases this season.
- Steven Kwan (Guardians): He is known as one of the best contact hitters in baseball, as he rarely strikes out. He was hurt often last season but has two home runs and eight RBIs to start off this season.
- Nick Castellanos (Phillies): A solid everyday player for a number of years. He had 23 home runs and 86 RBIs last season. He has three home runs and 11 RBIs so far this season.
- Julio Rodriguez (Mariners): The 24-year-old had 20 home runs and 68 RBIs in less than 600 at-bats last season. This year, he already has three home runs, eight RBIs, and four stolen bases.
Conclusion
The sleeper of the outfield is 25-year-old Heliot Ramos of the Giants. San Francisco looks as if it will challenge in a tough division, and Ramos will be in the middle of it. He already has three home runs, nine RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Note: There are not enough designated hitters only players to list them. That leaves three huge players out of Fantasy Baseball lists. Reigning MVP Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers, Brent Rooker of the A’s, Kyle Schwaber of the Phillies.
