The baseball season has just begun, but it is never too early to take a look at the top closers. Here is a breakdown of the top five overall, the next five to keep an eye on, and five that are worth a spot on your roster.
Top 5 MLB Closers
- Emmanuel Clase (Guardians): He only has one save so far, but he had 47 last season and a .067 ERA. He also has two wins in 2025.
- Devin Williams (Yankees) is struggling after being traded from the Brewers. He has only one save and a 9.00 ERA. One problem he has is that the Yankees haven’t played many close games. The other issue is that he doesn’t pitch well in cold weather. Don’t give up on him.
- Josh Hader (Astros): He had 34 saves last season and already has three this season with a 1.13 ERA.
- Edwin Diaz (Mets): He was hurt most of last season and even lost his closer job for a while, but he came back down the stretch to get 20 saves. He has had three already this season.
- Ryan Helsley (Cardinals): He had 49 saves and seven wins last season. He has two saves so far in 2025.
Closers on the Brink
- Raisel Iglesias (Braves): He had 34 saves last season and has two already this season, but the Braves are playing bad baseball, so that is a concern.
- Mason Miller (A’s): The Value of closers can suffer greatly because of the team he plays for. Miller is at the top of that list with his 100-mile-an-hour fastball and nasty slider toiling away for a team playing in a Triple A park. If not for being in the A’s, he would be a Top 5 closer.
- Justin Martinez (Diamondbacks): He only had eight saves in limited closer duty for Arizona last season, but he is the full-time guy this season. He has two saves already and a 0.00 ERA.
- Jhoan Duran (Twins): He had 23 saves in 58 games last season, and that earned him Minnesota’s closer job. He has zero saves so far this year, so who knows how long he will hold it?
- Andre Munoz (Mariners): He is off to the best start for any closer. After earning the job with 22 saves last season, he has six already this season and has not given up a run.
Who are these Guys?
- Robert Suarez (Padres): He had 36 saves last season and 9 wins. He already has seven this season with a 0.00 ERA and a great team.
- Carlos Estevez (Royals): He had 26 saves between the Angels and the Royals last season but has five already as Kansas City’s top gun this season.
- Kyle Finnegan (Nationals): He is 33, so despite his 38 saves last season, he remained a free agent for a long time in the off-season. Washington finally decided to bring him back, and he has five saves already.
- Luke Jackson (Rangers): He had 18 saves in 2019 but has not been a closer since. He already has 5 this season.
- Ryan Walker (Giants): He had 10 saves and 10 wins to earn the closer job. The Giants are off to a great start, and he already has five saves.
Sleeper Closer
The sleeper is not a new guy. Aroldis Chapman was one of the most dominant closers in the game for years. He has been a setup guy at best for the past two years, but now he is closing for the Red Sox and has three saves already.
