Mikko Rantanen 2024-2025 Fantasy Outlook

Mikko Rantanen

Mikko Rantanen has had 2 massive seasons in back-to-back years. In 22-23, Mikko put up 55 goals, the first time he’s had 50+ goals in a season and 105 points. It is also the first time he’s had 100+ points in his career at that point for the Colorado Avalanche.

In 2023-2024, Rantanen had another amazing season with 42 goals and 104 points. He had fewer goals than 22-23 but had more assists and only one less point.

Mikko Rantanen was selected in the first round, 10th overall, by the Avalanche in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Rantanen was announced to have made the opening night roster for the 2015–16 season as an 18-year-old, but played limited minutes and was sent down to the AHL shortly into his rookie season.

Rantanen had a massive year during the 2017-2018 season, putting in 29 goals and 55 for 84 points in 81 games. Only star teammate Nathan MacKinnon had more points for Colorado.

In 2019, Mikko Rantanen signed a 6-year, $55.5 million contract extension with the Avalanche. This upcoming season is his final season in his 6-year contract, making 9.25M AAV for the 2024-25 season.

An extension for Mikko Rantanen with the Avalanche is apparently “close” but nothing is official as of writing this.

In 2022, the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup over 2 time defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in 6 games.

In the 2022–23 season, after Jari Kurri and Teemu Selänne, Mikko Rantanen became the third Finnish player of all time to break the 50-goal mark in the NHL regular season.
