Mike Williams 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Mike Williams is coming off a left knee injury in Week 3 vs. the Vikings. He was later diagnosed with a season-ending ACL tear. He has a huge injury past that has plauged his career so far, he’s had six separate injuries since 2020. Mike Williams signed a 3-year, $60 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, including a $21 million signing bonus, $40 million guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $20,000,000.

The Los Angeles Chargers released wide receiver Mike Williams. In the three games he played last season, Mike Williams had 19 catches, 249 yards, and a touchdown. He was almost around a 100-yard-per-game pace. It’s a small sample size, but that and his great career numbers are why the Jets have taken a chance on him. Mike has two 1000+ yard seasons and would have surely had a third in 2022 if he didn’t miss three games. He had 895 yards in 13 games.

In 2018, he reached ten touchdowns for the only time in his career; in 2021, when he played all 16 games, he had nine touchdowns.

The New York Jets ended up picking up Mike Williams, a one-year free agent deal with the Jets worth up to $15 million. Williams’ contract carries a base salary of $5 million, as reported by Spotrac. He carries a cap hit of just under $6 million but a dead cap charge of over $8 million. There are additional void years later on to spread out his guarantees and overall value, but his $8.3 million in guarantees for the 2024 season is the fifth-most of free agent receivers this offseason.

Mike Williams explained why he signed with the Jets

“I just felt like it was a great fit for me. Aaron, I want to be able to play with him, pick his brain, learn from him”.

This is unofficial from the Jets, and Mike Williams is still injured, but there’s good news, according to Jets Coach Robert Saleh.

“The good news is, obviously he’s a lot further ahead than we anticipated,” Saleh said, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “If I’m not mistaken, he was out at individual and some route running stuff early, so that’s going to kind of be his progression. He’ll be involved in all the walk-throughs, individual, routes on air, so for the next week or two, that’s about the extent of what we’ll see unless he starts feeling good, but we’ll anticipate him getting back into team work maybe a couple weeks from now.”

Mike Williams also doesn’t know if he’ll be ready for the team’s first regular season game.
