Miami Dolphins Defense 2024 Fantasy Outlook

miami dolphins

The Miami Dolphins defense ranked in the top five fantasy football DST in most leagues. This year the Dolphins have a new defense and also a new defensive coordinator in Anthony Weaver. Weaver spent the last three seasons (2021-2023) with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens were one of the top defenses in the league under Weaver. The Ravens led the NFL with only allowing opposing teams to score on average 16.5 points in the NFL in 2023.

The Miami Dolphins had a reliable top NFL defense when Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas were part of the team back in the late 1990’s early 2000’s. Now that defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins for the 2024-2025 season, Miami is looking for a dominant season on defense.

The Dolphins made some offseason free agency moves and traded some players to different teams. They lost Christian Wilkins to the Las Vegas Raiders , Andrew Van Ginkle to the Minnesota Vikings and Xavian Howard (free agent) to free agency. However, the Dolphins also added new players to their defense this year. This also helped Miami clear cap space to bring on players to the team and to give QB Tua Tagovailao a new contract deal.

To start, the Miami Dolphins added Jordan Poyer, Jordyn Brooks and Kendall Fuller. The Dolphins also added rookie edge rusher Chop Robinson from the NFL draft this season. Robinson was the 21st pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is explosive and is the fastest edge rusher that came out of the NFL combine this season. If Chop Robinson can lead the team in sacks and big plays for the Dolphins, it can be a great season for the Dolphins DST.

The Dolphins had four touchdowns, 56 sacks, 15 interceptions, and 12 forced fumbles last season. The Dolphins did lack in the sense that they could not capitalize on offense once the defense made big plays in the game. Also, there were games where the Dolphins allowed 56 points in the Week 17 loss to the Ravens

The Dolphins have looked good so far in training camp practices Javon Holland has pick off Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins will have a test in the beginning of the season to see if they can be an elite defense this year and rank again in the top five defenses. They play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 and in Week 2 they play the Buffalo Bills.  Both of these teams have a decent offense and a great defenses.

Final Thoughts

The Dolphins DST is worth drafting if available in the 10th round or even the 17th round of the draft. The Dolphins stats are a top five defense from last season. They still should be one of the top 10 defenses this season. They are projected in the 2024 season  to play 17 games, 3 TD’s, 56 sacks, 13 INT’s, and 15 forced fumbles. The Miami Dolphins will be beneficial in all leagues if its DFS, Dynasty, PPR or non-PPR leagues.

The Dolphins defense can also help a fantasy team owner in the waiver wire when their defense in on a bye week . The Dolphins can be a great pick up for a week they play a weak team. This can also help with betting on the Dolphins to win and or but the spread if the matchup is favored for the Dolphins.
