Matthew Tkachuk is coming off an incredible season for the Florida Panthers, his numbers did drop a bit from his first season in Florida, in which he put up 40 goals and a career-high 109 points, in the 22-23 season the Florida Panthers made the Stanley Cup Final, ultimately falling to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in 5 games.
This Past season Matthew Tkachuk put up 26 goals and 88 points in 80 games, still a very solid season but worse numbers than his last season in Calgary and first in Florida, but Tkachuk and Florida will take that trade-off for them eventually winning the Stanley Cup in 2024, defeating the Edmonton Oilers in 7 games.
Matthew Tkachuk had 6 goals, 16 assists, and a plus-minus of 0 in 24 games in the 2024 playoffs.
Revisiting the Tkachuk/Huberdeau Trade
The Calgary Flames traded star winger Matthew Tkachuk and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2025 to the Florida Panthers in a blockbuster for Jonathan Huberdeau who was coming off a 115 point season, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt, and a conditional first-round pick in 2025, Tkachuk was apparently not willing to sign an extension with the Calgary Flames, so they moved him to Florida, where Matthew Tkachuk did sign an extension.
Matthew Tkachuk signed an 8 year , $76,000,000 contract with the Florida Panthers, immediately after being traded to Florida that included a $68,000,000 signing bonus, $76,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $9,500,000.
It’s clear as day the Florida Panthers have won this trade so far, but MacKenzie Weegar is a great Defenseman, and Jonathan Huberdeau is arguably the worst contract in the NHL.

Matthew Tkachuk is also expected to play on the Top Powerplay with Sam Reinhart, Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe and Aaron Ekblad.
Matthew Tkachuk isn’t projected to play on the Penalty Kill, but he’s going to get tons of minutes with being on the 2nd line and the top Powerplay, his average time on ice last year was 18:38, 2nd highest in his career only to his 22-23 season in Florida which was 20:26 TOI.
He has great chemistry with Sam Bennett, who of course these projections are expected to stay on the same line once again.
