Matthew Barzal had a monster 2023-2024 Season, putting up 23 goals and 80 points in 80 games. His 2nd most in his career only behind his rookie season, the Islanders got a huge boost with new coach Patrick Roy replacing Lane Lambert as Head Coach.

Matthew Barzal Career Production

Matthew Barzal was selected by the Islanders in the 1st round, 16th overall, of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. They hit the Jackpot, the Boston Bruins held picks 13,14, and 15 of the first round in the 2015 Draft. They picked Jakub Zboril at 13, Jake DeBrusk at 14, and Zachary Senyshyn at 15, which obviously led to Barzal being picked by New York.

Barzal made his NHL Debut during the 2016-17 season but only played 2 games with 0 points before returning to his Junior team. The Seattle Thunderbirds won the WHL Playoff MVP.

In 2017-18 his rookie season, Barzal became the first NHL rookie to record three five-point games in a season since Joe Malone did so in the 1917–18 season. He was also nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy which he won, the best rookie in the NHL that season with 22 goals and 85 points.

Following John Tavares leaving the Islanders to join the Maple Leafs, Matthew Barzal was put on the top line as the Center with Anthony Beauvillier and Josh Bailey.

Matthew Barzal was named to the 2019 All-Star team for the first time, Barzal led the Islanders in both points and assists with 18 goals and 62 points.

Barzal was signed to a reported 3-year, $21 million contract with the Islanders in 2021, but a year later Barzal signed an eight-year, $73.2 million contract extension with the Islanders.
