Malik Nabers was taken 6th overall by the New York Giants in the 2024 NFL draft. Quarterback Daniel Jones’ back is against the wall this season, and Nabers was brought in to eliminate any excuses about quarterback play. Nabers was immediately slotted in at the WR1 position in New York after posting bonkers numbers at LSU in 2023. Clearly, Nabers is an awesome talent, but can Daniel Jones support a top-10 receiver in fantasy football?
Malik Nabers 2023 College Production
Nabers was fantastic in his last two seasons at LSU. He caught 161 balls, accumulated 2,586 receiving yards, and scored 17 touchdowns in his final 27 games in college. In 2023, Nabers finished 2nd in receiving yards and 3rd in receiving touchdowns with 1,569 and 17, respectively. Nabers was a big play specialist who averaged 17.7 yards per reception and led the NCAA in 20+ and 30+ yard receptions.
Malik Nabers 2024 Projection
Malik Nabers has been making plenty of noise throughout training camp, both with his play and his fists. It was reported that Nabers accumulated 17 catches on 18 targets for two touchdowns against the Lions in joint practice. Nabers also exchanged his fair share of haymakers against Detroit Lions DBs, specifically Kerby Joseph.
Nabers is projected to record 79.5 catches, 1,047 receiving yards, and 5.6 touchdowns as a rookie. In redraft leagues, Nabers is ranked as the WR23 at pick 41. In dynasty leagues, Nabers is being drafted as the WR9 at pick 14. This significant difference in rankings across leagues is expected for a rookie who has big potential. At pick 41, he is being drafted around Amari Cooper and Stefon Diggs. Conversely, at pick 14, he’s being drafted around Tyreek Hill and Puka Nacua.
Final Thoughts
If Nabers wants to explode out of the gate in 2024, he will need above-average quarterback play from Daniel Jones. In terms of dynasty leagues, the quarterback situation is a huge question mark, and guys like Puka Nacua and Tyreek Hill seem safer for the next 2 to 3 seasons, at least.
The worry for dynasty drafters is that if Daniel Jones flops once again, then the Giants are back on the QB market. Taking a player at 14th overall should have little to no risk, and that cannot be said for Malik Nabers. Nabers does have some upside in redraft leagues, though. Drafting him at WR23 is a bargain. He could easily finish as a top-15 receiver, but it is all dependent on Daniel Jones. Draft Malik Nabers at your own risk!
