By virtue of beating the Hawks in stunning fashion, the Orlando Magic get to face off against the Boston Celtics in round one of the NBA playoffs. This will definitely be an uphill battle for Orlando, considering the reigning champion Celtics are well-equipped to go for a repeat. Orlando still has several players that Boston shouldn’t take lightly, as they can still put points on the board very quickly.
Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics Start Em’
Franz Wagner (DraftKings Price 8.2K, FanDuel Price 8.7K)
Wagner is a unique weapon for the Orlando Magic. He isn’t the first person they look for (partially because Paolo Banchero exists), but he cleans up a lot of mistakes for the Magic. Wagner can do this because he has a very quick move to the basket, so he will be hard to defend. Wagner also dropped 23 points in his last meeting with the Celtics. He had a good performance against the Hawks, so he is poised to drop another 23 in this game.
Derrick White (DraftKings/ Fanduel Price 7.2K)
While it’s hard to figure out Boston’s game plan exactly, they may try to keep the ball out of the paint and score from range, which would be good news for shooters like Derrick White. Tatum and Brown can always score by driving to the paint, but they might not do that as often with Banchero guarding the basket. That could leave lots of opportunities to kick out 3s, which Derrick White excelled at.
Cole Anthony (DraftKings Price 4.4K, FanDuel Price 5.3K)
Anyone who saw the play-in game against the Hawks got a nice glimpse of what Cole Anthony can do. He has nice moves to the basket and a quick release, which allows him to pull the trigger even if he is being contested. Not only did Anthony play great against Atlanta, but he dropped 18 on the Celtics the last time they played. Look for him to dominate when he comes off the bench and the starting guards for Boston come off the court.
Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics Sit Em’
Paolo Banchero (DraftKings Price 9.2K, FanDuel Price 9.6K)
Despite the fact that Banchero is the best player on the Magic, this matchup isn’t good for him. First of all, he has been playing more of a facilitator role. The Hawks doubled him often during the play-in game, and Banchero simply passed the ball.
Banchero only scored 17 in that game and only 15 in his last game against the Celtics. It wouldn’t take long for a defender like Al Horford to help against Banchero, so he might be in a similar position. It makes sense for DFS to invest in the shooters that Banchero will be passing to.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (Draft Kings Price 4.2K, FanDuel Price 4.7K)
Caldwell-Pope can be a big factor in this offense, especially if he gets room to shoot. The issue is, with the perimeter defenders on the Celtics, he might not get too much space. In order for Caldwell-Pope to shoot, he will need to come off a screen or find himself in a good spot where the defense leaves him alone. Otherwise, he won’t be forcing the issue, and that’s probably why he scored nothing in seven min of playtime against the Celtics in their last meeting.
Jrue Holiday (DraftKings Price 5.7K, FanDuel Price 5.9K)
Holiday could end up having a great game, just not for DFS. Holiday provides for the team by playing defense and passing to the arsenal of shooters that the Celtics have. He won’t score himself, though, unless the defense really ignores him. That’s why his season high is 23 points; he spends plenty of possessions not touching the ball because Tatum or Brown take it down the court.
Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics Lock
Jaylen Brown (DraftKings Price 8.1K, FanDuel Price 8K)
Usually, when the Celtics play, Jayson Tatum ends up being the lock. He will have Paolo Banchero guarding him, though. Brown will have a much better matchup, which is very important because both players like to play isolation. Therefore, if Brown can beat his man more often than Tatum can beat his man, then Brown should outscore Tatum.
Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics Fade
Wendell Carter Jr. (DraftKings Price 5.5K, FanDuel Price 5.2K)
The Celtics are clearly a tough matchup for Carter Jr. In their last meeting, Carter Jr. could only score eight points. This shows that the frontcourt is too much for Carter Jr., and it isn’t entirely his fault. Not many centers in the league want to play 20 minutes with Al Horford or Kristaps Porzingis guarding them. Even in a good matchup, though, other centers will have higher ceilings than Carter Jr.
