It’s been a bit since the Luka Doncic trade, and with the playoffs around the corner (especially with LeBron injured), it’s up to Doncic to step up and lead this team to the playoffs. Plus, the young superstar is likely responsible for leading your fantasy roster into the upcoming playoffs. Is Doncic capable of carrying both responsibilities, though?
Luka Doncic as a Laker vs. as a Maverick
On paper, Doncic has been regressing overall this season, going from 66.0 points per game in fantasy to an average of 55.7 this season. Though that could be chalked up to injuries earlier this season, it does bring up a question regarding Doncic. Has Doncic kept his historic play since he was traded to the bright lights of Hollywood, or has he been held back by going to Lebron’s Lakers? For that, we have to look at it game by game.
It was a slow start for Doncic in LA; that’s for sure. Only scored 14 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds, resulting in a total of only 26.3 points when 3 games ago Luka Doncic had 94.3 fantasy points against the Warriors.
Doncic Point Total Between February and March 2025 for DraftKings and Fanduel
Doncic racked up 447.5 DraftKings points and 423.3 FanDuel points from 2/10/25 to 3/4/25. Well below the numbers a player who’s supposed to be the second-best player in all of NBA fantasy is supposed to rack up. There were concerns that LeBron and Doncic would have trouble sharing the ball, and it looked like that was the case at first. With Doncic finding this partnership, then his old partnership with Kyrie Irving. However, brand new coach JJ Reddick would step up to the challenge and find a way to balance the offense between Doncic and LeBron James.
Luka earned 713 DraftKings points and 670.2 FanDuel points between March 6, 2025, and March 29, 2025. He even earned a spot on Shawn Pettinati’s bench for March 27, 2025. And again for the week of March 17, 2025.
Though it’s notable that he hasn’t had a game quite like the 94-point bomb he scored on the Warriors while he was a Maverick. However, the consistency during this time is reminiscent of his time with the Mavericks. As shown by this stretch he had with the Mavericks last season, which he actually beat in total points. Nothing better to show that the Slovenian has made himself at home in LA.
In conclusion, since Luka Doncic has been traded to LA, and especially since Lebron’s unfortunate groin injury, he’s been slowly working back up to his usual greatness and is more than capable of leading either your team or the Lakers to a deep playoff run. Thanks a bunch for reading!
