Coming into the 2024-2025 season Luka Doncic is one of the favorites to win the MVP. If you ask Dallas Maverick fans he should have won it last season. Luka enters year seven with the Mavericks and looks as good as ever. Doncic is coming off of a Finals run with the Mavericks and wants to lift that Larry O’Brien trophy this season. Luka signed a five-year $207 million supermax contract that went into effect last season and has him in Dallas until 2026-2027.
2022 & 2023 Stats and Fantasy Production
Last season Luka Doncic averaged a league-leading 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.9 stocks, and 59.53 fantasy points per game. Last season Luka Doncic finished as the number two overall fantasy player last season, according to Fantasydata. and Fantasypros. Nikola Jokic is the consensus number-one fantasy player, but Luka Doncic is on his heels.
The only reason Luka is not the number one fantasy player is because he does not bring in the defense stats. 1.4 steals a game ranked him 15th in steals last season, but 0.5 blocks ranked him 94th, and ranked him 7th among point guards.
Luka Doncic 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Luka is going to be sensational, phenomenal, unreal, and any other adjective you can think of this season. The Slovenian is poised to have another season of putting up nearly a triple-double every game. Luka Doncic played in 70 games last season which is the most since his rookie year, and there was some discussion during the Olympics about him being injured, but there has been no follow-up so that is no cause for concern.
With the pairing of Kyrie Irving, Doncic will have a playmaker to dish the ball off to and another star on his team so that Doncic cannot be double-teamed every play. Realistically, Luka Doncic could average a triple-double this season, and finally cross that threshold for his long list of accomplishments. As a fantasy owner, if Luka is available with any pick except pick one, take him.
Final Thoughts
Luka Doncic is exactly who you think he is, and he should drafted in the top two picks. If players like Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, or Joel Embiid are drafted before him in your league, you need to thank the heavens. Luka Doncic has not shown to be injury-prone in his career and has never played less than 60 games in a season.
The only downfall to Luka’s game is he does not have the defensive capabilities of Paul George or Kawhi Leonard, but he is still good at picking pockets and getting steals. If Luka can find himself getting more blocks this season, he could challenge Nikola Jokic to become the number one fantasy player this season.
