Most fantasy teams that roster Luis Gil felt they were riding sky-high. While that can still be the case, the potential for an IR stint with a back injury is a real possibility. 3 Replacements For Luis Gil After Injury
Valente Bellozo SP MIA
Besides sounding like an outstanding pasta dish Valente Bellozo is boasting a 2.45 era and 27 strikeouts in five starts this season. Yes, it is only five starts, but he has gone at least five innings in all of his outings. Not to mention he pitches on the Miami Marlins, a team that is out of the hunt but looking to develop its young talent.
With a favorable home matchup against the Cubs, and an away start against the struggling Rockies, this arm can be a nice add for a mostly depleted waiver wire/ Free agent list.
Osvaldo Bido SP/RP OAK
Osvaldo Bido is not a very common household name, even among the most seasoned Fantasy players. He has flown under the radar for most of the year. But now is his time to shine. With a 3.40 era, no one can complain about his ability but with only 45 strikeouts there is still a lot wanting from him.
The reason he makes the list is the fact that he has now had three quality starts this month and has upped his game. Understandably, he pitches for the A’s and they are having a rough patch so to speak. The run support is not a guarantee, however, the leash is a bit longer for Osvaldo as he continues to get opportunities to showcase his stuff. Most importantly Osvaldo has strung together three consecutive starts to show he may have found a good rhythm. Riding a hot hand is never a bad idea when it’s playoff time.
Domingo German SP/RP PIT
This might sound a bit strange compared to the other members on the list, but hey playoff pushes can call on unique chances and opportunities. Domingo German hasn’t dazzled in the bullpen for the Pirates over his Six innings.
His 5.29 era from Triple-A this year isn’t what you all are looking for to make the playoffs or win this round if you are already in it. But he has experience and he is facing a down-in-the-dumps Rangers team. Never underestimate a man trying to stick with a chance to stay in the Big Leagues.
This very well could be Domingo German’s last opportunity to show his stuff. This one is more of a gut pick and not a stats-backed one so use this with great caution, but it’s better than an injured Luis Gil.
