Logan Cooley 2024-2025 Fantasy Outlook

Logan Cooley played his first ever NHL season last year with the Arizona Coyotes, now the Utah Hockey Club.

Logan Cooley’s rookie season didn’t start off great, earning not a ton of ice time and consistent play but as the year on it did, and he ended up putting up 20 goals and 44 points in 82 games, which ranked fourth among rookies Brock Faber, Luke Hughes, and Connor Bedard.

Logan Cooley always had confidence even when it wasn’t going great for him early in his rookie campaign.

I’ve always had confidence,” Cooley said. “I’ve always been a guy who has had confidence. Even when I’m not playing my best I still have it. For me it’s just being comfortable in this league. Knowing you can make that play, knowing you can beat defenders wide, being reliable out there, so I think like I said it’s a learning process and I’m just trying to get better each game.”

Fellow Coyotes (now Utah) Forward Dylan Guenther was a big help to Cooley’s season turning around.

It’s awesome,” Cooley said on playing with Guenther. “Obviously Guenther is a guy that fits with me really well. I like having a shooter on my line and a guy that has good speed too. We read off each other really well. It’s been unbelievable playing with him, he has been great ever since being called up and it’s helped my game too.”

His play improved so much throughout the season that he ended up playing on the Penalty Kill too, Logan Cooley says it’s a “learning progress” on how to be more of two way player.

“I think it’s just a learning process of how to play in this league,” Cooley said about his defensive progression. “That’s something I’ve always strived to be as a two-way player, not just a one dimensional player.

Being a two way player will help for Fantasy in a multitude of ways, more ice team = more opportunities and that means more chances for stats like blocked shots on the Penalty Kill or a Goal on the Power Play for example.

The Hockeywriters.com predicts Logan Cooley to not have a sophomore slump and have an even better season than his Rookie Campaign, calling it a “sophomore surge”.

Now begs the question, will Cooley see a surge or slump in production this season? While there are a lot of variables we touched on already, I’d bet on Cooley seeing a surge in production, and that’s for a combination of reasons. First, as we already mentioned, the talent around Cooley is undeniable. Armstrong is setting up the younger players for success, having players who’ve already won Stanley Cups and are veterans of the game. These are players who will drive some of the youth in the correct direction.

Final Thoughts

I agree with the Hockeywriters.com, Logan Cooley ended the season in amazing form and the Utah Hockey Club only got better, making their defense significantly better with Mikhail Sergachev and John Marino, both trade additions from Tampa Bay and New Jersey respectively.

A Full season of Guenther and Cooley playing together will also benefit both, assuming that’s what happens in Utah, I expect Logan Cooley to have a better season as well, probably around the 55-65 point range and close to 30 goals.
