Los Angeles Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Preview, Prediction & Odds | April 8, 2025

Los Angeles Lakers

After a shocking 27-point victory by the Lakers in these two teams’ last meeting, LA and OKC are running it back. The Thunder still securely have the best record in the Western Conference as well as one of the league’s top defenses. Still, these two teams just met on Sunday. Fans and betters have to wonder if the 27-point margin of victory was just a fluke or if the Lakers present a real matchup problem for the Thunder. If the latter is true that could present major concerns for Oklahoma City in this game and moving forward in the hunt for the championship.

Fluke or a Late Season Slide for The Thunder

\"Oklahoma

Due to these two teams’ last game being against each other, this is an interesting game on Tuesday night’s betting slate. Combine that with the way the oddsmakers were wrong about the last matchup, we have to look even closer at this one. Oklahoma City is a young but talented team and how they will react to the big moments in front of them can be a bit of a crap shoot.

In the last 10 games, OKC is 8-2, but with those two losses coming back to back in the Thunder’s previous two contests. During the last 10 games, the Thunder has been 8-2 against the spread. I’m not saying that Sunday night was a total fluke. The Thunder should be concerned going into a seven game series against an experienced team. I think that even the Lakers will have a hard time beating this team at home twice in a row. Unless you are willing to bet that the Thunder will totally take their foot off of the gas, I would actually expect them to cover.

Lakers Are Bigger and More Experienced

The Lakers do present what appears to be a mismatch for the talented top-seeded Thunder team. They may have certain desires for depth and size at the center position. The size comes into play when Luka Doncic and LeBron James are able to have the ball in their hand and outsmart the young OKC team. One very interesting thing that the Lakers were able to do well on Sunday was to keep Shai Gilgeous-Alexander off of the free-throw line completely. The Lakers have gone over the point total in six of their last 10 games but I think it’s a night where the league’s best defense needs to return fire and make a statement of their own.

Final Pick

Thunder to win (-355), Lakers to cover spread (-110), point total under 229.5 (-110)
