Kadarius Toney 2024 Fantasy Outlook: A True Heartbreaker

Kadarius Toney after making a big play

Where do I start with Kadarius Toney? I guess by saying that there are some people you just can’t quit no matter how horrible they treat you. They borrow money but don’t pay you back or get injured every time you put them in your fantasy lineup. And yet each time they screw you over, you choose to look past the negative time and time again. For me, that person is Kadarius Toney.

Yes, that Kadarius Toney, the one-time New York Giant, and current Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chief. He has always had incredible potential as both a pass catcher and a rusher and can do just about anything on a football field. Theoretically, he should be a superstar right?!?

Unfortunately, we don’t live in the theoretical. We live in the here and now. And in our imperfect universe, Kadarius Toney represents the hope and pain of fantasy football like few others.

At times Kadarius Toney looks like a completely different player. One minute he’s the greatest New York Giant pass catcher since OBJ, then the next minute he’s a Swiss army-type weapon who gets unleashed as a wide receiver or a running back in Kansas City. But no matter where he’s lined up in the field, he always ends up in the training room nursing his super weak hammies and ankles or just hanging out on the sideline.

And that’s where the frustration lies because each year coaches talk him up like he’s about to truly break out. So I watch the tape, see Kadarius Toney with his sick highlights, and convince myself that this could finally be his year. But no longer!

This will be the first year I can say “I will not draft Kadarius Toney” with 100% certainty. I’ve been hurt too much before and if this sounds like a breakup letter, well guess what? It is! WE’RE DONE!

I finally realize the obvious: there are plenty of other giant athletic fish in the sea. In 32 games played over four very long seasons, Kadarius Toney has career numbers of just 760 reception yards, 119 yards rushing, and only 4 total touchdowns. That would be pretty weak if it was one season, not to mention four!

Who to Target Instead of Kadarius Toney in 2024?

The good news is there are plenty of other unique athletes to fill your open Kadarius Toney hole. Like Cordarelle Patterson, the best combo runner/receiver the NFL has had in ages. He moved from the Falcons to the Steelers, following his former head coach Arthur Smith. He should have a role all over the field on offense while also returning the ball on special teams.

Or maybe go with Deebo Samuel and get a combo WR/RB who stays on the field and makes huge plays. He’ll cost a lot more than Kadarius Toney in drafts, but he’s pretty much guaranteed to be at least 50 times better.

Or grab Taysom Hill, the quarterback/tight end for the Saints who’s also lined up at running back and has rushed for 2,159 yards and 27 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2017. He’s the ultimate Swiss army knife who can beat you throwing, running, or catching the football. And he’s battle-tested! Taysom plays through injuries on the regular, unlike Kadarius Toney who’s been a real-life Mr. Glass.

Final Thoughts

After reading all this, I hope you’ve reached the same conclusion as I have.: NEVER DRAFT KADARIUS TONEY AGAIN! I get the temptation, I really do. He’s just so talented, right?

Well, that might be true, but if he keeps missing games due to injury or commits bonehead penalties like he’s been known to do, then he might render his role with the Chiefs completely worthless, which would destroy all value Toney holds. So save yourself the hassle and fall in love with another player’s untapped potential.
