Jonathan Taylor 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Can He Be the Best Again?

Jonathan Taylor just finished his 4th season with the Indianapolis Colts. At the beginning of the year, he didn’t even know if he would be playing with the Colts. After some intense contract negotiations, Taylor eventually signed a 3-year deal worth up to 42 million dollars.

He ended up with 169 rush attempts and 741 yards, tacking on 7 touchdowns on the ground. After his amazing year in 2021, leading the NFL in rushing, he has taken a few steps back in the last 2 years. With a new quarterback under center, Jonathan has a new opportunity this season.

Can the former star return to form in 2024?

Jonathan Taylor 2023 Stats and Fantasy Production

Jonathan Taylor in 2023, because of injuries, only played 10 of the 17 games. Despite this, he still accumulated 894 total yards and 8 touchdowns. He was effective on the ground and through the air. He averaged 4.38 yards per rush and 8.05 yards per reception.

These stats were enough to put up 156.4 total fantasy points. This equals 15.64 fantasy points per week. This was a big thanks to his week 18 performance of 30 rush attempts, 188 rush yards, and a touchdown. He tallied 27.6 fantasy points in his team’s biggest game. He was the 12th-best running back in 2023 on a point-per-game basis.

Fantasy managers across the country are hoping that Taylor stays healthy this season and plays more than 10 games. If he can manage that, we know he has the talent to be a top 8 running back. But there are a few other things that are better for Jonathan this season.

According to Fantasy Pros, Taylor is projected to be the 10th overall pick and the 4th running back off the board in a fantasy draft. In full PPR, his ADP is 16th overall, and he is the 5th-ranked running back. In half PPR, his ADP is 13th overall and he is the 5th-ranked running back.

In 2024, I project Jonathan Taylor to go for 1100-1200 total yards with a combination of 240-250 rush attempts and 40-45 receptions. I also project 12-15 touchdowns from the running back. He is projected to be a late first or early second-round pick, and anyone who drafts him there will be happy with his production when he is healthy.

Final Thoughts

Jonathan Taylor enters a new situation this year playing next to Anthony Richardson. This change is good and bad. On the bright side, playing next to rushing quarterbacks makes running backs much more efficient. On the other hand, there is a good chance Richardson steals touchdowns from Taylor.

He was in a weird situation last year, but Jonathan now has the contract insolation. He is a very solid second-round running back and may even be worth taking in the first round. He is a part of what is projected to be a high-powered Colts offense this season which will help him overall. He has legitimate Running Back one upside this season.
