Jonathan Brooks is a Rookie from the University of Texas and was deemed one of the best rookie RB prospects in a weak rookie class. The Carolina Panthers drafted Brooks in the second round of the 2024 draft, and that is a great situation for him because his ceiling should be high in a weak running back room in front of him with Chubba Hubbard and Miles Sanders.
Jonathan Brooks 2023 Production
Jonathan Brooks had 187 carries for 1139 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, 25 receptions for 286 yards, and a receiving touchdown last year at the University of Texas. Fantasy Pros pointed out his three-down skillset with the following statistical analytics: Brooks was 21st in yards after contact per attempt and yards per route run while also finishing ninth in the PFF elusive rating.
The main issue with Brooks at the moment is the ACL injury he’s coming off of, is hurting his value a little bit in the main scheme of things right now and for the whole season as a whole but he should be back to full capacity for the back half of the 2024 season just in time for the Fantasy Playoffs.
Jonathan Brooks 2024 Projections
ESPN is giving Brooks the RB21 rank in their projections with the following stat line: 144 carries, 662 yards, and 5 touchdowns while also tallying 24 receptions for 175 yards and a touchdown for 140.61 fantasy points. Jonathan Brooks’ ceiling is high because the RB room around him is weak at the foundations with Hubbard and Sanders making Brooks the RB1 once healthy and I could see him having this type of impact right away for Carolina.
Meanwhile, Fantasy Pros has Brooks as the RB35 in their ECR ratings with the 3rd easiest schedule for running backs in 2024 with 161 carries 702 yards, and 5 touchdowns rushing with 142 fantasy points. Fantasy Pros values him that low because of the ACL injury sustained last November.
Final Thoughts
Jonathan Brooks is going to be a stud in this league for a long time but the timing of 2024 might hurt him fantasy-wise because of the ACL injury in 2023. The RB room in Carolina is there for the taking and Brook has the talent to run away as the RB1 in the future, but in 2024 he won’t be the RB1 right away, but he’ll end up being that status by the end of 2024 as a rookie.
Brooks is a good backup value play in redrafts especially if you have stud RBs already on your teams. I would use Brooks as a backup option for this fantasy season in case of emergency uses only but he’ll be a great asset for Dynasty leagues.
