John Tavares is entering a very important season in his career; he is entering the last year of his mega contract he signed in the 2019 NHL offseason with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
John Tavares signed a 7-year, $77,000,000 contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, including $70,890,000 signing bonus, $77,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $11,000,000. In 2024-25, Tavares will earn a base salary of $910,000 and a signing bonus of $7,040,000, while carrying a cap hit of $11,000,000.
Tavares was also removed as Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs for Auston Matthews to become the new Captain.

John Tavares was selected 1st overall by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
In his rookie season in 2009-10 John Tavares finished 2nd in rookie scoring with 24 goals and 54 points in 82 games, only behind then Colorado Avalanche’s Matt Duchene.
In 2011, Tavares signed a new 6-year, $33 million contract with the Islanders effective from the 2012–13 season through to the end of the 2017–18 season.
In 2012, John Tavares was selected to his 1st All Star game, during the same season he was named an Alternate Captain for the Islanders.
2013 was a great year for Tavares, being named a Hart Trophy Finalist, putting up 28 goals and 47 points in the 48-game lockout shortened season, while he helped the Islanders make the playoffs for the first time since 2007, he was also named the Captain of the Islanders before the 2013-14 season began.
In 2015, Tavares was 2nd in the Art Ross Trophy race with 38 goals and 86 points in 82 games played, with once again being a Hart Trophy Finalist which went to Montreal Canadiens Goalie Carey Price.
In July of 2018, it was announced that Tavares had signed a 7-year, $77 million contract with his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Tavares finished his first season in Toronto with 47 goals 41 assists and 88 points in 82 games, his career high in points and goals up to this point in his NHL Career.
In October of 2019, John Tavares was named the Captain of the Maple Leafs, He was the Assistant Captain for his first season in Toronto.
In the 2023-24 season, Tavares put up 29 goals and 65 points in 80 games.
