Joe Mixon is entering his 8th season, and for a veteran with that much mileage on him, he looks great for a running back. Since he was drafted out of Oklahoma, former Cincinnati Bengals running back has been one of the most consistent rushers in the league, and he proved that again last year with his first season as a Houston Texan.
Mixon was regularly hitting 90-100 yards each game and finding the endzone frequently, despite his disappointing end of the year. The big question for him going into the 2025 season is this: Will age catch up with him, or will he be able to perform like usual?
Joe Mixon 2024 Stats and Fantasy Production
Mixon rushed for over 100 yards in seven of his first ten games as a Houston Texan last season. At that pace, he might have finished the year with stronger stats. Unfortunately, his last four games were disappointing. He still managed to finish ninth for yards per game with 72.6, but only got to 15th overall for total yards in the season with 1,016.
It is fair to mention that Mixon was a little banged up throughout the season. It’s possible that led to his poor outings during the last four weeks of the season. Certainly, fantasy football players will be wondering if that’s just age catching up to Mixon, though.
Joe Mixon 2025 Fantasy Outlook
Looking forward to next season, Mixon does come with a considerable amount of risk. His offensive line took a hit since Laremy Tunsil is now a Washington Commander. The Texans tried to address this issue by drafting Aireontae Ersery from Minnesota, but it’s still unclear if he will be starting and how much impact he will have on the offensive line.
Despite that, a healthy Mixon should be projected to average eighty or more yards per game. That would put him up as a great RB 2. Taking Mixon as an RB 1 is very risky, though. He could get injured again, and in most leagues, players should be able to get one of the more elite rushers like Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Jahmyr Gibbs, or Christian McCaffrey.
Once all of those players are off the board, Mixon is a fine pick. It may also be smart to draft Dameon Pierce down the line as well in case Mixon goes down with injury. Either way, a healthy Mixon probably gets 20 fantasy points a game in 2025.
