Joe Burrow 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Top 5 Finish?

Joe Burrow

Coming off a season ended by a wrist injury, Joe Burrow is looking to prove he still has what it takes to lead his team to the promised land. From his decorated career as a college star at LSU to his Super Bowl appearance in 2022, Burrow still looks hungry to compete.

Joe Burrow looks poised for a return to form in fantasy as well. It will not be hard to surpass what he did last year in terms of fantasy points considering how many games he missed. That is if Burrow and his supporting cast can all stay healthy.

Joe Burrow is projected 279 fantasy points this season by ESPN, which puts him in the upper echelon of fantasy QBs. Burrow only averaged 14.7 fantasy points per game last season but scored at least 23.9 points in his previous three games before injuring his wrist.

He also has shown nothing but an upward trend in fantasy point averages from his rookie season up until 2023. Joe Burrow’s fantasy point totals were a bit inflated due to him scoring five rushing touchdowns in 2022, considering he is more of a pocket passer.

Fantasy managers should think about what Joe Burrow said when it comes to injuries going forward for him. He said, “I’m growing and learning how to handle my body,” referring to when to push through or rest an injury.

This was a perfectly rational answer, but fantasy football is anything but. When a fantasy manager hears this they may have to factor in a couple of missed games simply based on Burrow prioritizing his health during the course of a grueling season.

Can Joe Burrow finish as a top-five QB?

Joe Burrow has a great case for being able to crack the top five QBs in fantasy football this season with health being the only real concern.

He still has one of the best wideouts in the league in Jamarr Chase and a great receiver in Tee Higgins to throw to. It should also be noted Higgins is playing for a payday since this is his contract year.

Joe Burrow has a new weapon at his disposal this season in Jermaine Burton. Burton was drafted with the 80th pick by the Bengals in 2024 and could create more opportunities downfield for Burrow.

Unlike former Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd, who mainly operated out of the slot, Burton was known more for his verticle routes downfield in college. Andrei Iosivas, who was a rookie last year, is penciled in as their new slot receiver.

Final Thoughts on Joe Burrow

Joe Burrow is primed for a great season back from injury. He has shown no problems with throwing the ball in preseason. The two problems that could hold him back from being a top-five QB in fantasy are injury and Jamarr Chase possibly sitting out games in hopes of signing a better contract.
