Jermaine Burton 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Jermaine Burton

Third-round rookie Jermaine Burton could be a sleeper value late in drafts, as he is coming off a nice performance against the Indianapolis Colts. He caught his second touchdown in three preseason games. Although it is preseason, it is notable he has a shot to become the third wide receiver option for the Cincinnati Bengals. However, he will have to surpass second-year player Andrei Iosivas, who is slated to be the starter in the slot.

The 80th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft spent two seasons at Georgia, and then Alabama where he had a breakout final season. Jermaine Burton was still mostly a part-time contributor in his four collegiate seasons for both offenses. He has not had close to 1,000 receiving yards any season and was only close to 800 yards in 2023.

Burton was productive as a touchdown producer, catching 7 and 8 touchdowns in the final two years for the Crimson Tide. He was not as effective as a Bulldog but transferred due to character concerns despite having all the talent. Jermaine Burton will need to overcome some red flags to reach his ceiling as an NFL prospect.

Burton 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Jermaine Burton will have to earn more playing time as a potential replacement for veteran Tyler Boyd to be considered a fantasy contributor for Cincinnati. The Bengals wide receivers have the second hardest schedule against the position, according to FantasyPros. It might take one of their starters to be traded or not play due to injury for him to be a valuable fantasy asset in year one.

In PPR, his ADP is 195 overall as the 74th wide receiver taken in drafts. Rookie receivers with starting roles even late like Adonai Mitchell or Xavier Legette may get more shots to start in comparison. But if Iosivas can’t earn his place as the third starter, then Burton could make the most of it. Joe Burrow and the offense should remain pass-happy in Zac Taylor’s scheme now that their passer is healthy.

Final Thoughts on Burton

Going against mostly backups with the second-team offense, Jermaine Burton has 8 catches for 157 receiving yards and two touchdown grabs. The 23-year-old always had the talent, but had massive off-the-field issues in college and fell this past NFL Draft. While he has an upside late in drafts, the rookie may take a while to shine in this offense for fantasy. Burton profiles as a boom-bust type player.

The Ja’Marr Chase hold-in situation opens the door for another playmaker alongside Tee Higgins, who signed his franchise tag. Jermaine Burton could play in the slot or on the outside with his speed and contested catch ability despite his frame. For 2024, Burton is more of a flier at this point in drafts.
