Jared Goff enters his fourth season as the Detroit Lions quarterback after spending five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Goff and the Lions recently agreed to a four-year, $212 million contract extension. The deal makes Goff the highest-paid player in franchise history and the second-highest-paid player in the NFL annually.
The former number-one selection out of the University of California is entering his ninth season in the league and is coming off leading the Lions to their first NFC Championship game appearance since 1991. Jared Goff has accumulated 30,429 passing yards, 185 touchdowns, and 82 career interceptions since entering the league.
Initially the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, Jared Goff was traded to the Detroit Lions for Matthew Stafford in 2021 after he led the Rams to a Super Bowl loss in 2020. Goff has thrown for 12,258 yards and 78 touchdowns in his three seasons with the Lions.
Last season, Jared Goff finished as the overall QB7 and finished in the top five in passing yards and touchdowns. Now, he is clearly THE guy in Detroit and is looking to take the franchise to the Super Bowl for the first time in team history.
Is a top-five QB season on the horizon for Goff in 2024?
Jared Goff 2023 Stats and Fantasy Production
Jared Goff has experienced a career resurgence in his three seasons with the Detroit Lions. He played in all 17 games in consecutive seasons and accomplished career highs in completion percentage (67.3%) and completions (407) while throwing for 4,575 yards (second in the NFL) and 30 touchdowns (fourth in the NFL).
In 2023, Jared Goff amassed 302.9 fantasy points, averaging 17.82 points per game. Goff has been highly durable during his career, only missing four games due to injury. His worst injury occurred when he fractured his thumb in 2020.
Jared Goff 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Jared Goff will enter the season as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and a reliable top-ten fantasy quarterback. After leading the team to a divisional championship in 2023, the Lions have aspirations to repeat in the NFC North division. Since coming over from Los Angeles, Goff has been highly consistent.
Last year, the Lions drafted Hendon Hooker in the third round to be a fallback option in case Goff faltered. However, this year, he is coming off an NFC Championship game appearance and a Pro Bowl selection. With the new massive contract extension, it’s safe to say Jared Goff has the full support of the Detroit Lions coaching staff and front office.
According to Fantasy Pros, Jared Goff is projected as the 93rd overall pick and the 12th quarterback off the board. In Full PPR, his ADP is 119th overall and the 14th-highest-drafted quarterback. In Half PPR, Goff is projected as the 100th pick and the 12th quarterback off the board.
Entering 2024, I project Jared Goff to throw for 4,400+ yards with 28-30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. A touchdown or two on the ground is likely also. He is projected as an eighth-round pick in 1QB leagues. In SuperFlex leagues I would have projected in the fourth or fifth round.
Final Thoughts
Goff will be 29 entering the season and has been terrific in Detroit. With high-end weapons like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jahmyr Gibbs to distribute the ball to, Jared Goff has top-five fantasy potential.
Goff had a special season last year and should be close to the same in 2024. He finished as the overall QB7 in 2023, and I would project him to be in a similar range in 2024.
