JaMycal Hasty is an underrated RB in terms of fantasy football. He has shown a lot of versatility and talent through the years. However, this season he will be playing as RB4 and will most likely be getting limited snaps with the New England Patriots
Now playing under the guidance of new head coach Jerod Mayo, Hasty’s role can be expected to be smaller compared to his teammates Stevenson, Gibson, and even Harris. As the Patriots’ RB4, Hasty´s fantasy outlook unfortunately doesn´t look very promising. But there´s always a chance to surprise.
JaMycal Hasty´s 2024 Outlook
JaMycal Hasty will begin his 2nd year with the Patriots but 5th overall. He´s previously played with the 49ers and the Jaguars. Hasty is a very underrated player to watch, even in 2020 when he came into the league, he did so as an undrafted player and everything he´s proven is that he´s a hard worker and that he can surprise.
He´ll get the chance to show what he can do during the preseason and perhaps even make an argument for RB3. He is known for his speed, elusiveness, and ability to make something out of nothing. This season, with the Patriots, he´s set to play a small supportive role within the offense, given that the running game will mostly be Stevenson and Gibson´s responsibility not a lot of output is expected out of him.
Most of his action will most likely come should Stevenson or Gibson be fatigued, through special plays like jet sweeps or flea flickers or through special teams. However, it isn´t out of the cards that he could somehow get some playtime as a wildcard player.
In regards to the passing game, JaMycal Hasty may get a chance to minimally contribute here. He has solid route running skills, and an ability to make plays in space, especially in plays out of the backfield like screens. Under Mayo’s coaching, you can expect Hasty´s role to be utilized as a wildcard back who can make an impact on special plays.
JaMycal Hasty´s Style of Play
- Hasty is a very elusive and quick player. Ideal for screens and 3rd downs.
- His game is a mix of speed with agility, which makes him an elusive and interesting player.
- He can shed tackles easily due to his speed
- Hasty´s receiving skills are explosive and can get some decent yardage out of screenplays.
JaMycal Hasty 2022 and 2023 Production
According to ESPN and ProFootballReference, Hasty hasn´t enjoyed almost any production at all during his career. He has had more of a supportive role. Though he did have some small contributions during the 2020 and 2022 seasons.
In 2020 he posted 39 attempts for 149 yards and only 1 TD. He had 7 catches for 33 yards.
In 2022 he only ran the ball 46 times for 194 yards and 2 TDs with the Jags.. Receiving, he caught 20 passes for 126 yards and 1 TD.
Due to his particular skillset, the Patriots saw some potential in Hasty to give him a chance. However, he hasn´t had the chance to do much. Consider Hasty will simply be there to fill any gaps left between Stevenson and Gibson.
Final Thoughts
Don´t expect JaMycal Hasty to do much this season with the Patriots, unless something unusual happens. Even though he is a versatile player and has the potential to make a meaningful impact, the fact that he plays behind Stevenson and Gibson simply means he most likely won´t have the biggest fantasy production out there. Keep in mind that many factors are yet to be defined within the Patriot’s offense and there could be room for him somewhere.
In addition to all of this, make sure to keep an eye on how Hasty is used in the patriot´s offense and make the necessary adjustments. Mayo is new and may begin to use Hasty´s talents in some way we haven´t seen. But Hasty is young and talented. Anything can happen, While he may not be a top starter, his ability to contribute in some way can be a worthwhile addition, especially in deeper leagues or as a flex option. However, he´d be considered a very late-round pick due to his depth chart positioning
