Jalen Hurts is entering his fifth NFL season as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback. After a middle-of-the-road 2023 where he had a lot of positives in his performance but the turnovers were the killer, Hurts looks to rebound in 2024 under new Offensive Coordinator Kellan Moore.
Hurts had 4,463 total yards and 38 total touchdowns with 19 total turnovers in 2023 where the offense was the most disjointed of his career to this point. This season is poised to be the best season of his career and here’s why.
Jalen Hurts Will Benefit from the use of Motion
The worst part of the Eagles’ offense last season was the lack of motion overall in the schematics of the offensive plays. The Eagles in 2023 fell from the middle of the road in the use of motion under Shane Stechien in 2022 to by far the worst team in terms of motion percentage in 2023 under Nick Sirianni/Brian Johnson coached offense.
Kellan Moore is repeatedly in the top ten of using motions every season he has been an offensive coordinator. Having weapons like AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, etc. there is no excuse for the lack of motion like they did in 2023.
Kellan Moore will use these weapons down to the science of making sure the offense is the most optimized as possible. Also with new weapons like Saquon Barkley and the recently acquired Jahan Dotson, the use of motion should elevate the passing game even more in 2024. Speaking of the new weapons, let’s look at how they’ll make Jalen Hurts better as a whole.
Jalen Hurts’ New Weapons Will Make Life Easier
The additions of Saquon Barkley and Jahan Dotson especially will help with Jalen Hurts’s projections this season even more with more dynamic play out of the running back spot and the WR3 spot than it was in 2023. Jalen Hurts is currently projected to be the QB2 on ESPN projections with 3,624 passing, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with 535 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns as well. Fantasy Pros also has Hurts as the QB2 in fantasy with their projections having Hurts at 4,434 total yards, 35 total touchdowns, and 12 interceptions totaling him at 360 fantasy points this season.
The passing touchdowns should go up even more now with the addition of Dotson as the Eagles just formed a Top-2 WR trio with the trade with Washington a few days ago. Also, the rushing attack will be more dynamic with Barkley because as we have seen in multiple social media posts so far this season the Eagles QB has his burst of speed back. Hurts having his speed back makes the option game back in play more often in 2024.
Jalen Hurts is Now Healthy Again
As was said before, Jalen Hurts looks faster than he was in 2023 by a landslide in the few social media clips we have seen to date including the clip where he races Dallas Goedert toward the end zone at the Nova Care complex early on in training camp. Hurts had ankle surgery after the Super Bowl and didn’t look right from the outset in New England running the football because of it.
The last time we saw a “healthy” Jalen Hurts he was outplaying Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. Look for that version of Jalen Hurts to arrive for the whole year in 2024 and light up fantasy numbers across the board in any kind of format. I think Jalen Hurts will eclipse 4,700 total yards and 40 total touchdowns in 2024 based on the way he’s playing so far in Training Camp practices.
