Jake Ferguson proved last season that he can be a tight-end stud if given enough opportunities, and the Dallas Cowboys benefited in the regular season. Ferguson is one of those tight ends that were under the radar for most people until 2023 when he became that impact player for Dak Prescott in the red zone, and 2024 should be an even bigger year for him as he and Ceedee Lamb are the only two real pass catchers on that roster right now. Let’s look at Jake Ferguson’s 2023 production.
Jake Ferguson’s 2023 Production
Jake Ferguson had 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns with 10.7 yards per reception in 2023. His biggest game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles in the matchup in Philadelphia was seven catches for 91 yards and a touchdown in that contest. Fantasy Pros had Ferguson heading into the season as the TE 25 in draft positions in PPR drafts, but Ferguson finished as the TE 9, according to their metrics.
Jake Ferguson finished with 177.1 fantasy points on ESPN Fantasy last season, proving that his season was a worthy one for fantasy contenders on multiple analysis points. Looking ahead to 2024 Ferguson should continue to be a strong TE to consider in drafts let’s look at those projections for Ferguson in 2024.
Jake Ferguson’s 2024 Projections
ESPN is projecting Ferguson to have 65 receptions for 675 yards and five touchdowns for 165.66 fantasy points for the TE 10 spot. Those numbers assume that Ceedee Lamb is going to be there for every single game but with Lamb currently in a contract holdout and not in camp right now it’s uncertain that Lamb is going to be the fittest player in week 1 or even playing meaning that Ferguson should see more a few more targets early on.
Fantasy Pros has Ferguson as the TE 9 ECR like how he finished last season on their metrics. Their stat line projections have Ferguson finishing with 71 receptions for 740 yards and 6 touchdowns. This projection has certainly more favorable production than the ESPN projections and that is likely the right course of action at the moment until proven otherwise, meaning if Lamb comes back within the next week or so.
Final Thoughts
Jake Ferguson’s value is elevated because the Lamb holds out in my eyes, especially since he can be a good security blanket for Dak Prescott while Lamb is gone. Don’t get me wrong, Lamb is still the No.1 pass-catching option in Dallas when he comes back and will have a strong fantasy season, but the holdout is going to cost him some targets if he doesn’t get back before week 1. With that uncertainty, you should look at Ferguson with a little more value now. I would draft Ferguson in the 6-9 round range of drafts and would consider it a steal if you get him in round 8 or 9 of your drafts.
