The Global e-Cricket Premier League (GEPL) recently opened player registrations for its highly anticipated second season. Sign up quickly because the short window of registration closes on August 7. JetSynthesys, the company that created the GEPL, also announced this year’s prize pool of over US $360,000. Here is everything to know about the upcoming e-cricket tournament.
What is the GEPL
The Global e-Cricket Premier League is the largest franchise-based cricket esports tournament. Currently, only players from India are eligible to play in the GEPL. But esports fans everywhere can enjoy the live action through social media. The tournament is smartphone-based, and players compete against each other through the Real Cricket 24 mobile game. All participants need to play is a mobile phone and a wireless connection.
How to Register
Registration for the GEPL Season 2 tournament is simple. Visit the official site and click on the Player Registration link. The site also includes an FAQ and a section devoted to league rules. Contact information and social media links for all other questions or information are available on the GEPL website.
JetSynthesys announced over 50,000 players pre-registered for Season 2. Teams were composed of six members last season. For the 2024 GEPL, eight-player teams are now eligible, expanding franchise options. JetSynthesys plans to release more information on social media in the coming days. Fans can follow the GEPL to stay informed.
What Happened Last Year
Last December, the GEPL Season 1 finale streamed live from Balewadi Stadium in Pune, India. The Dubai Vipers defeated the New York Apes for the inaugural crown. The London Apes finished third, and the Kolkata Hawks placed fourth. The Dubai team also earned the bulk of US $300,000 in prize money.
The event included performances from music artists Henny Papi and EPR Iyer. A live announcement team gave a play-by-play of the action. National television channels Sports 18 and JioCinema broadcasted the event. The tournament also streamed live on social media.
Participants received individual awards for Most Runs, Most Maximums, and Most Wickets taken. Other awards included the #FindYourGlory award, the Filtrum FairPlay award, and the Exceptional Performance award. Season 2 should see more awards and prizes.
Tournament Structure
All GEPL players registered by the deadline join a single elimination tournament. The popular esports platform Challengermode hosts the matches until only 265 players remain. This year’s tournament includes the top 74 players from Season One. Those 339 players then battle in the Qualifiers round from August 16 to September 7. The top-ranked 100 players at the end of the Qualifiers round receive further details regarding advancement.
What to Expect This Year
An announcement on whether fantasy cricket lovers can bet on the GEPL Season 2 tournament is yet to be released. Considering eCricket betting is becoming more popular, it is a viable option. Fans who enjoy participating in fantasy cricket make the perfect demographic for the Global eCricket Premier League. More details regarding fantasy and betting should develop in the coming days.
