3 Injury Prone Fantasy Sleepers You Should Consider Drafting

injury

Most fantasy football writers will tell you to stay away from injury-prone players. That makes sense. You cannot win your league if many of your players aren’t on the field. However, some of these potential sleepers could produced for your team if they can stay healthy.

Here I have three oft-injured sleepers you should consider at multiple positions for fantasy football heading into the 2024 NFL season.

Receivers with Talent

Here is the good news. These players typically are available later in the draft. Two of these players (Brandin Cooks WR Dallas and Joshua Palmer WR LA Chargers) were covered in this sleeper article by my colleague. Check it out to read about them.

Christian Watson WR Green Bay Packers – Watson has a rare combination of size and speed. There aren’t many receivers who are 6 foot 4 and run a 4.36 forty time. He showed his potential against the Cowboys in 2022 with a 3 TD game. It looked like he was breaking out as the next fantasy star.

Unfortunately, hamstring issues have caused Watson to miss 10 games in the last 2 seasons. It turns out Watson had a muscle balance issue which has caused hamstring strains. Watson has worked with the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and Public Health to fix the issue. If Watson is healthy for 17 games, he could be a top-25 fantasy WR. Currently, his ADP (Average Draft position) on Yahoo is 112.4.

Mike Williams WR – New York Jets – Williams has only played 16 games in the last 2 seasons. He was limited to three games last year after tearing his ACL in September. This caused the Chargers to release Williams in order to save 20 million in cap space. The Jets then signed Williams to a one-year deal to pair with potential star Garrett Wilson.

There is a good chance Williams gets the 2nd most targets on the Jets after Wilson. The last healthy season for Williams was 2021. In 16 games he had 76 catches for 1146 yards and 11 TDs. Even if Williams gets to 75% of that production he is a steal in the later rounds. Williams’s ADP is 133.3.

Running Back with Upside

JK Dobbins RB – Los Angeles Chargers – If you want the poster child for being injury-prone, it is Dobbins. The former 2nd-round pick has trouble staying on the field. Last year he suffered an Achilles tear in Week 1. He also has had knee and hamstring tears in the past.

Despite playing only 24 games in 3 seasons, Dobbins has averaged 5.8 yards per carry and has 12 rushing TDs. When healthy, he produced for the Ravens. Now on the Chargers, Dobbins has a chance to be their starter. His ADP is 130.7 and worth the risk if you miss out on one of the top running backs.

Final Thoughts

Will all of these players stay healthy? Probably not. But if they do, their upside and value are tremendous. You should target one of these sleepers if you need depth at WR or RB. And from looking at their ADP, they are worth the risk.
