Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars DFS Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em| October 6, 2024

The Indianapolis Colts travel down to Jacksonville on Sunday to battle the Jaguars in an AFC South matchup. The Colts have won two straight to get back to .500, while the Jags are winless at 0-4. Indy will be without star running back Jonathan Taylor and quarterback Anthony Richardson is doubtful.

For Jacksonville, not much has gone their way. Trevor Lawrence has been inconsistent at best, while their defense ranks near the bottom of the league. Sunday’s game is looking like it will be pretty sloppy, as the weather forecast is calling for rain.

Here are a few of the players that we are leaning on heavily in this game. These players are in a good spot to put together a solid performance and have a favorable matchup.

Indianapolis Colts RB Trey Sermon
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Payton Wilson (41) tackles Indianapolis Colts running back Trey Sermon (27) on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Colts RB Trey Sermon (DraftKings: $5.7k, Fanduel)

Trey Sermon hasn’t done much this season, but Sunday against the Jags should provide the opportunity with Jonathan Taylor already ruled out. Over the last three games, Sermon has only registered nine carries for 24 yards, but he did score a touchdown against Chicago two weeks ago. The Colts the best offensive line in the league according to PFF. Add in Sermon’s low cost and you have yourself a viable option if you want to splurge at another position.

Indianapolis Colts WR Josh Downs (DraftKings: $5.1k and Fanduel)

The probable starter for the Indianapolis Colts is Joe Flacco. The veteran has been pretty good going back to his time with the Browns last season. Even in the rain, Flacco knows how to distribute and who to get the ball to. Enter Josh Downs. Downs has only played in two games this season, but his best was last weekend with…you guessed it…Joe Flacco behind center. Fire Downs and his low cost up with confidence and save the rest for a stud.

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (DraftKings: $5.7k and Fanduel)

The forcast is calling for rain in Jacksonville on Sunday and T-Law hasn’t been the most accurate quarterback in 2024. He actually has the second lowest completion percentage in the NFL at 53.3%. Even though Indy hasn’t been good against the pass either, this feels like a running back game. There are much better quarterback situations to go after this week.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. (DraftKings: $5.9k and Fanduel)

I’m a big fan of Brian Thomas Jr. I just don’t think this is a game for him this week. He is a long, fast receiver who is used best down the field. With the probability of rain, I mentioned this feels like a running back and possession receiver game. With that being said, I like Christian Kirk a lot more in this matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

Total Apex Lock of the Game

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (DraftKings: $6.7k and Fanduel)

Travis Etienne has been decent so far this season. While he hasn’t had a breakout game yardage wise, he is averaging 4.6 yards per carry. That ranks him sixth among Running Backs with 40 or more carries. The Indianapolis Colts defense ranks 31st out of 32 NFL teams in rushing yards per game allowed with 164.8. Combine the Colts poor run defense with the probablity of rain and Etienne could eat.

Total Apex Fade of the Game

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (DraftKings: $6k and Fanduel)

Anothony Richardson has not started the season off well for the Colts. In four games played, he is only completing 50.6% of his passes and has four combined passing and rushing touchdowns. His six interceptions are the most alarming thing though. He is listed as doubtful for the game with a hip issue that caused him to exit last week’s game early. In his absense, Joe Flacco looked like the much more capable QB anyways.

Conclusion

Even though the Indianapolis Colts have the statistical worst defense in the NFL, the Jaguars aren’t tearing it up on offense. The rain could cause major issues in the passing game, opening it up for the running backs and slot receivers to have big games. Fire up Trey Sermon for a cheap starting running back and get Travis Etienne in their also. Josh Downs and Christian Kirk should be nice plays too in the short passing game.
