4 IDP Defensive Backs to Help Win Your League

What do you need for a good IDP Defensive Back?  Well, like linebackers, you are looking for consistency in tackles first, versatility as a playmaker second.  While a shutdown corner is on the top of the needs list for any NFL, in Fantasy you want to avoid them like any good quarterback does.  Your focus here needs to be on Safeties.  Here’s who to focus on after Derwin James Jr., Kyle Hamilton, and Antoine Winfield Jr to win your IDP league.

In his first season with the Seahawks, Love had a great year and finished just shy of 200 points.  Love was able to put together three games with over 20 points and was pretty consistent throughout the year.  New coach Mike Macdonald takes over the team and even though Love is in a different position, look for his production to be similar to Kyle Hamilton from last year.  Look for Love to jump into the top 10 in IDP rankings by the end of the year.

Camryn Bynum, Minnesota Vikings

In Bynum’s 3rd year with the team and first as a starter he put up over 130 combined tackles, 9 PD, and a couple interceptions.  Look for him to build off of that and possibly have more opportunity without the presence of top tier pass rusher Danielle Hunter with the team this year.  Bynum should continue to grow this year and build on his breakout campaign and be your IDP Savior.

Kamren Curl, Los Angeles Rams

Curl joins the Rams after spending the last four years in Washington.  Curl has been productive but will jump into the role for the Rams previously held by Jordan Fuller last year, a top 20 DB for IDP that left for Carolina in the offseason.  The Rams did spend a 2024 3rd round draft pick on Kamren Kitchens, but still has a ways to go.  Look for Curl to take advantage of his mentor role this year while Kitchens wins the Kamren battle in a couple years.

Brian Branch, Detroit Lions

Branch had a very good rookie year, but as he develops, so will his consistency.  The issue with the Lions 2nd Round Pick from 2023 is that in game 3 last year he had a huge game with 11 sacks and a couple of PD and 27 points, the next game dropped to 10 points, missed a couple games, then a couple more games in single digits.  He’s worth the gamble though with the huge upside, just make sure you have a decent backup in case of injury.

Conclusion

Much like linebackers, your defensive back position in IDP should be looked at like the flex position in terms of production and draft position.  While you are looking for consistent double-digit production like you are with WR and RB, the supply is much bigger since you only have 1 position to fill.  Watch your weekly matchups because you can make a bigger difference in your weekly production from changing out your DB based on matchup than you can at any other position.
