Week 7 brings us an inter-conference battle between the 5-1 AFC South-leading Houston Texans traveling to Green Bay to take on the 4-2 Packers. This game should give us plenty of options from a DFS perspective, including two of the top five highest-priced signal callers on the slate. Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, and Jayden Reed are obvious starts in this one, but we try to offer you a mix of chalk and contrarian or lower-owned options for a unique lineup build.
Houston Texans vs. Green Bay Packers DFS Start ‘Ems
Here are a few of the players we are heavily leaning on in this game. These players are in a good spot to have a solid performance and have favorable matchups.
Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud ($7.1k DraftKings and $8.4k Fanduel)
Stroud is QB10 in the season and we think this game has a back-and-forth potential. For the Houston Texans, CJ Stroud gets a Packer defense ranked just 25th against the pass this season. Stroud is tied for fourth among quarterbacks with 10 touchdowns and in the top half in the all-important yards per attempt. Stroud could easily been our DFS game lock but we went a different direction as you will see below.
Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson ($4.9k DraftKings and $5.9k Fanduel)
Jayden Reed is the obvious start for a Green Bay wideout but using Christian Watson if, he is active, is a nice contrarian DFS play that saves on salary. Watson showed his big play ability last week with a 44-yard touchdown catch. Watson led the Green Bay wideouts with 68 yards and was tied for second with 6 targets. We like this play even more if Wicks ends up inactive, which is very possible as he is week to week with a shoulder injury.
Houston Texans vs. Green Bay Packers DFS Sit ‘Ems
On the flip side, here are a few of the players we recommend sitting in this one.
Green Bay Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks ($5.2k DraftKings and $5.6k Fanduel)
Wicks is questionable and may not play with a shoulder injury, but even if active he is at risk of reinjury. Dontayvion Wicks was a top add a couple of weeks ago when Watson was out but now falls down the receiving pecking order with his return. Wicks is a boom-or-bust WR3 and not worth the risk in a game with multiple DFS options.
Houston Texans TE Dalton Schultz ($4.2k DraftKings and $8.4k Fanduel)
Tough to put Dalton Schultz here because his eight targets last week were second for the Houston Texans. However, it amounted to just four catches for 27 yards. The Packers are vulnerable against the tight end being ranked 29th in points allowed to the position, but we expect Diggs, Dell, and Mixion to be the offensive focal point. We are not using Schultz in DFS this week, as he averaging only 3.88 fantasy in FanDuel scoring.
Total Apex Lock of the Game
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love ($6.9k DraftKings and $8.7k Fanduel)
We debated on using Stroud here but decided on Jordan Love at home. Love gets a nice spot against the Houston Texans’ defense ranked 2oth in quarterback points allowed. In Love’s four games, he has averaged 23.78 FanDuel fantasy points which would be good for QB2 right now. The Houston Texans-Green Bay Packers implied game total is top five on the slate and Love’s DFS salary is the third highest on FanDuel just behind Allen and Hurts and hopes he may go a tad under-owned.
Total Apex Fade of the Game
Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs ($6.4k DraftKings and $7.3k Fanduel)
Josh Jacobs is the clear lead in the Packer backfield but his volume has only amounted to RB24 which is a fringe fantasy RB2. Jacobs is a DFS fade for us in what we expect to be a more pass-happy game script. Jacob’s numbers have been decent no doubt, but he is mediocre in explosive run rate and would need 14.6 points to pay 2x his DFS salary. To put it in perspective, he is currently averaging 11.50 FanDuel fantasy points per game.
Conclusion
From a DFS perspective, this game will feature plenty of options with an implied game total of 47.5, and both Houston Texans’ and Packers’ offenses ranked in the top six. Our best and perhaps safest recommendation is to fire up the starting quarterback for Green Bay. This game should be very competitive with only a three-point game spread.
