Shortstop Jeremy Pena has been on a tear for the Houston Astros in the past week. Over the past seven games, he is slashing a ridiculous .500/.692/1.192 with seven RBIs. Isaac Paredes and Jake Meyers are also hitting over .300 in the past week. The Astros definitely have some pop in the lineup, and they have their ace on the mound.
Right-hander Hunter Brown heads to the mound as an early candidate for the Cy Young Award. He has already amassed six wins and boasts an ERA under two. In his last start against the Cincinnati Reds, he struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings, only allowing two hits. Brown hasn’t allowed an earned run in three of his last five starts.
Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers have been led by Josh Jung over the past week. Over the last seven games, he has slashed .429/.857/1.312 with three home runs and seven RBIs. The issue has been the rest of the lineup. They haven’t been able to consistently hit the ball, leading to a lackluster offense this season so far.
The Rangers send Jacob deGrom to face Brown. His last start came against the AL-Central leading Detroit Tigers. He struck out ten batters in 5.2 innings, only giving up two solo home runs. In his last five starts, he has allowed two or fewer earned runs. Furthermore, he hasn’t been walking batters, giving up one or fewer base on balls in four of the last five starts.

Prediction
These are two evenly matched teams, but the Texas Rangers have been a little better recently. On top of that, Texas is 15-8 at home while Houston is 7-11 away from their home stadium. Going up against Brown is tough, but deGrom should help keep things close. I’ll take Houston ATS and probably want the under as well given who is on the mound.
