The Atlanta Hawks travel to Orlando to take on the Magic on Tuesday for the inaugural game of the NBA Play-In Tournament. The winner of this game earns the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference and will get to face off against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. The Orlando Magic were 41-41 in the regular season, and the Atlanta Hawks finished the season with a record of 40-42.

The Hawks were victorious the last time these two teams matched up, defeating the Magic 119-114. This put the regular season series against these two teams at an even 2-2. The loser of this game is not yet eliminated. They instead will host the winner of the 9 and 10 seed matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat.

Trae Young Aims to Continue His Postseason Career

Trae Young is coming off of another excellent scoring season and hopes to lead the Hawks to the postseason for the fourth time in the last five seasons.  Young has averaged 24.2 points per game this season and helped the Hawks lock in the 8th seed with a 36-point showing against the 76ers on Friday.

Just in April, Young has averaged 25.9 points per game. Possibly more important is Young’s playmaking ability, having led the NBA with 11.9 assists per game. Overall, the Hawks have the 5th-ranked offense in the NBA and look to lean on that against one of the league’s best defensive teams.

Orlando Magic Learning on Top-Rated Defense

\"magic\"

The Orlando Magic have been plagued by injuries this season. Despite this, they come into this game with the league’s best scoring defense and possibly face the favorable matchup they need to progress to the postseason. Paolo Banchero has been a dominating force against the Hawks this season. He has gone for over 30 points in each of the times he played against the Hawks this season.

Not only will Banchero be difficult for the Hawks to contain, but Franz Wagner has also been a major contributor, averaging 24.2 points this season. Overall, I think the Orlando Magic are appropriately favored in this game. While the Hawks are explosive on offense, the way these teams match up defensively makes for an uphill battle for Atlanta.

Final Pick

Orlando Magic to cover the spread -5.5 (-110)
