Gardner Minshew 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Gardner Minshew Aidan O'Connell

Garder Minshew has always been sort of an enigma. After his 1st Pro Bowl season a year ago, he finds himself in a position to be the starter for the Las Vegas Raiders this coming season. Minshew signed a 2-year deal in the offseason worth $25 million, with $15 million guaranteed money.

Gardner Minshew was taken in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars and is entering his 6th season in the NFL. This kid from Flowood, Mississippi had an impressive rookie season when he replaced an injured Kick Foles to throw 21 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions, on his way to a 97.8 QB Rating.

He bookended that with a Pro Bowl season in 2023 that saw the Colts nearly missing the playoffs after he led them to a 9-8 record. During the season, Gardner amassed 3000 yards for the 2nd time while having a very respectable 62.2 completion%

Although frequently mistaken for a brash, eclectic player with an iconic mustache, Gardner Minshew is actually one of the most intelligent quarterbacks in the league. He had the 2nd highest Wonderlic score of 42, among all QB prospects before the 2019 draft, which is impressive since Ryan Fitzpatrick had one of the highest scores of all time with 48.

Gardner Minshew’s 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Despite some inconsistency in his 5 years in the NFL, Gardner Minshew can be a dark horse fantasy backup in standard leagues. He is projected to be ranked 76th overall and 32nd at his position, according to Raiderswire. He is also projected to score 145.16 fantasy points; in spite of the fact, he scored just over 196 points a season ago.

If he starts, I could realistically see Gardner Minshew throwing for over 3,000 yards and possibly over 20 touchdowns with the weapons he has. His legs could also bring a handful of rushing touchdowns on the goal line, so there is some upside.

Final Take

At 28, Minshew is still young and possesses enough experience to put up some good numbers. Having great weapons like Davante Adams, Jacobi Meyers, and an emerging Tre Tucker will certainly make things interesting.

One other note will be the stable of Tight Ends that can be difference makers in moving the chains and opening up the field for Minshew.
