After Sunday’s national tight ends day, people are all on the tight-end bandwagon. Tight ends more likely either won you some money or fantasy matchups in Week 8, as the majority of tight ends found the all-important end zone. But with so many injuries and trades around the league at the wide receiver position, that means that many tight ends are being thrust into huge opportunities, which makes this one of the more exciting and nerve-racking positions to focus on in fantasy. Eight weeks in, it seems still that this is a valuable position that owners need to get right on a weekly basis.
Tight End Start’em: Week 9
Texans TE Dalton Schultz
This start for the Texans tight end is more out of necessity due to major injuries at the wide receiver position more than Schultz being one of the best tight ends in football. The Texans will be without their top two receivers Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins in their Week 9 matchup at the New York Jets on Thursday night in Metlife.
Other than Tank Dell, Schultz might be the other reliable target for C.J. Stroud on Halloween night. Schultz did have 6 targets last week and this Jets defense is one of the most overrated groups in football. With all of those factors, this should be a comfortable start this week.
Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson
The Dallas Cowboys have become one of the most dysfunctional organizations in the league. They are the most talked about team even if they couldn’t be further away from being true Super Bowl contenders. The Cowboys tight end has actually had a solid season thus far but it definitely helps that the Cowboys have no other dependable targets other than him and Ceedee Lamb.
The Cowboys will be taking on the Falcons this week, who just allowed a monster day to tight end Cade Otton. This Week 9 matchup has shootout written all over it which means other than Lamb, Ferguson should be a start in this matchup.
Tight End Sit’em: Week 9
Browns TE David Njoku
Many fantasy experts will have Njoku as a top-five tight end play for this week when the Browns take on the Chargers. With Jameis Winston in at quarterback over Deshaun Watson, it seems like the offense began to explode in their shocking Week 8 victory over the Ravens. But don’t get it twisted that this tight end is the most inconsistent starting tight end in the league for many years.
Njoku has had a marvelous last two weeks but that doesn’t mean that will be what to expect on a weekly basis. The Chargers have one of the best defenses in the game and this game has low scoring written all over it. This makes this a pure touchdown-reliant player, who isn’t a top-five-ranked tight end. I might be in the minority on this but stay away from this game.
Ravens TE Mark Andrews
Three consecutive double-digit performances have people believing that Mark Andrews is back. The Ravens offense has been flying all year and finally, they have brought Andrews up for the ride. While things are heading in the right direction, it seems like it could take a detour just for Week 9. The Ravens will be hosting the Broncos and they have a top-three defense in football.
Their secondary has been incredible in 2024, which makes this a tough game to start any Ravens pass catchers. After this game, he should be a good choice to have in your lineup every week but this week, I would find a tight end with a better matchup.
