DJ Moore 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Is He Still The #1 Receiver In Chicago?

DJ Moore 2024 fantasy outlook

DJ Moore was one of the pieces that came over in the deal that landed the Carolina Panthers Bryce Young. The young wide receiver had a great year with Justin Fields under center. Now, Moore will get one of the most hyped quarterback prospects in recent memory throwing to him, Caleb Williams. Can we expect a huge season from him, or will the presence of other weapons stunt his production?

Moore had a huge season for the Chicago Bears. He caught 96 passes for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. In addition, he added a 21-yard rush for a touchdown. FantasyData had him ranked as the WR6 overall last season. For an offense that often struggled to move the ball through the air, these are fantastic numbers. One of the reasons for this was the lack of pass-catchers on the team.

Tight end Cole Kmet was the clear second option. DJ Moore didn’t have much competition at the wide receiver position. Chase Claypool was gone midseason after another subpar beginning to the season. Darnell Mooney was the third option and is nowhere near the level of Moore. While it is tempting to think he will be a surefire top-ten wide receiver with Caleb Williams, the team has brought in a lot of talent in the offseason.

His production does come with some caveats. In four weeks, he was a top-five wide receiver and top 12 in another two. However, he only had two other weeks in the top 33. In five weeks, he finished outside of the top 40. Part of the blame may be on the offense, but it still might be concerning on a week-to-week basis.

DJ Moore 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze are now on the team. Odunze’s production is hard to predict; however, rookie wide receivers have done well in the past few years. Allen has a track record of being a savvy veteran who can get open, especially on third down. There are more mouths to feed. While DJ Moore should still be the WR1 on the depth chart, it might not mean more production.

There are reasons to be bullish. New offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has a history of high passing rates in his offenses. In the past three years, the former Seahawks coordinator had his offense ranked 10th in neutral-situation pass rate. With Caleb Williams under center, there will likely be more targets to come by for the Bears this year.

Final Thoughts

DJ Moore is currently projected as a top-12 wide receiver. If he is your WR1, you might be a little worried, but he will likely be a solid WR2 once the 2024 season comes to a close. One of the issues is the unknown. What will Waldren’s offense look like? Who will Caleb Williams target? Will teams begin to double-team Moore to take away the number one threat? These are all unknowns.

It would not be a shock if DJ Moore has a similar season in 2024 as he did in 2023. While there are things going against him, he also has a lot of things going for him.
