De’Von Achane 2025 NFL Dynasty Outlook

De'Von Achane

De’Von Achane enters his third season with the Miami Dolphins in 2025, the third year of his four-year rookie contract worth $5.437 million. After playing three seasons at Texas A&M University, he entered the NFL Draft, where the Dolphins drafted him in the third round in the 2023 draft. In his two seasons in the league thus far, he amassed 1,707 rushing yards with 14 touchdowns, along with 789 yards and nine touchdowns receiving.

Last season, the former Aggie was a top 10 running back in all formats, despite playing part of the season in a timeshare with other running backs. Achane became a reliable and electric running back towards the end of 2023 and continued that through the 2024 season for the Dolphins. His greatest value in fantasy, however, is his ability to succeed as a pass catcher. This should continue while he remains a member of the Dolphins, establishing himself as an electric playmaker with the ability to gain many yards and receiving touchdowns, making him a top-five running back in PPR leagues.

With an entire season to play as the RB1 for the Dolphins, and under a potential shift in plans on offense this season, what is the ceiling for third-year running back De’Von Achane?

Achane played in 17 games last season with the Dolphins, starting 16 of them. The former Texas A&M speed back rushed 203 times for 907 yards while recording six touchdowns. He also hauled in 78 of his 87 passing targets, collecting another 592 yards and six additional touchdowns. He also accumulated no fantasy points for passing or special teams.

In 2024, De’Von Achane was a solid RB2 for most fantasy teams and pushed RB1 in PPR leagues. Once he was given a larger role in the offense, he became a safety net for QB Tua Tagovailoa. Using Fantasy Pros standard scoring, Achane was worth 13.1 points per game for a total of 221.9 points cumulatively. In PPR leagues, those numbers bumped up to 17.6 points per game for a total of 299.9 points cumulatively, reflecting his value as a pass catcher.

Achane remained healthy for the full season, unlike his rookie year. However, turmoil at quarterback and a bit of a timeshare at running back cut into his opportunities at times in 2024. His overall scoring was inconsistent depending on who was the Dolphins’ play caller. Even still, his playmaking abilities, running, and catching were valued by the team, and he was able to put together a very solid final stat line.

Achane enters 2025 healthy and looking for a true breakthrough season. Given his first opportunity to start the season as the clear RB1 in Miami, Achane will look to establish to teams he brings value at both RB and WR. He aims to prove he is a true and consistent top-end RB talent.

While he ultimately earned the lead back role, he did not consistently dominate at the rushing spot to get the consistent brunt of the opportunities game in and game out. That may change this year, with a shift in the Dolphins running back depth chart that could indicate the team’s comfort with letting him prove himself, given his high upside.

According to Fantasy Pros, De’Von Achane is projected as the 18th overall pick in standard leagues, 8th among running backs. In PPR leagues, he jumps to 13th overall and 4th among running backs. Half PPR leagues put him similarly, at 13th overall, 5th among running backs.

Entering 2025, I expect Achane to have a good year, but perhaps not as high as projected. He is an explosive player on a potentially exciting offense in Miami. However, his value is tied to his quarterback right now, Tua, because of the trust and connection they have built in the passing game.

If he gets hurt, which he often does, the Fins’ starting RB becomes far less reliable. The offense for Miami has also looked worse overall over the last year, despite an offensive-minded coach in McDaniel, leading to rumors of changes and dissent among the offensive playmakers. Achane is a strong player, but his potential is in flux.

Achane should be able to gather 1500-1600 total yards from scrimmage (rush and pass) in a full season as RB1, 80-90 receptions, and 13-15 touchdowns. He may get slightly handcuffed with touchdowns rushing, but should make up the gap in the passing game. He is projected to get drafted in the mid to late-second round, depending on formats.

For the 2025 season, this is a risky placement for a player with as many question marks as Achane has around him. His potential and opportunity could make him a big asset for teams taking the risk, and could even outperform his placement projections. The key will be whether he stays healthy and maintains a full starter workload with a consistent quarterback for the first time in his brief career.

De’Von Achane Dynasty Outlook

Achane will be entering his age-24 season this year, which means he should have many good years still left in his prime. He has a bit of an injury history, but his youth sets him up to be a factor for several seasons in a row. He remains an easy Top 10 RB in all scoring leagues for the long term as long as he stays paired with Tua. With his contract up soon, though, his role could quickly shift to a different team that passes less to the running backs.

The only real question mark for Achane, right now, is his role. He remains under contract with the Dolphins until 2026, but there is no commitment to him as their full-time RB1 over the long term. His question marks on rushing plays make him inconsistent on a game-to-game basis, although he should put up great stats in the aggregate.

However, if the team chooses to go with a running back by committee or split carry approach, it could hurt Achane’s overall production. If the end of last season is an indication, he should be the feature of the offense and collect receptions regardless of the run game, but plans can always change.

The other concern is his position. The truth is, a lot of running backs fade earlier than their counterparts at WR and QB. There are many stories of running backs fading at or before their 30s.

The former third-round pick at 23 years old is young and should provide value for a while, but there have been times in the past when RBs disappear out of nowhere, especially ones relying on receptions to boost their value. Either way, it is hard to invest in a running back in fantasy sports because their shelf life is short and unpredictable.

Achane is a great option to hold on to if he is already on your team in your league. He will score points and slot in as a decent RB1 or a high-quality RB2 out of the gate, with potential for even more, especially in PPR or Half PPR leagues.

Owners who are willing to take risks may want to target him in a trade in their leagues. If he is being valued below his current ADP, owners may be able to get him for value and roll the dice that Miami puts up the offensive numbers they are capable of, and get a full season out of their quarterback.

Teams that put the effort into acquiring him may be rewarded for the move, as he could easily become one of the Top RBs in the league if all falls right. The risk is high, though, given the high level of variability.

Final Thoughts

Entering his age-24 season, De’Von Achane has a clear opportunity to establish himself as one of the best RBs in the game. The Dolphins’ plans for his full-time role are not entirely clear, although it appears to be his job to lose at RB1, so his dynasty prospects are slightly unclear and largely tied to the success of his quarterback. If he leaves Miami after 2026, owners may have to scramble for a replacement.

For 2025, he is worth drafting and relying on as a top-end RB option, albeit one with a wide range of outcomes game to game. Achane had a great sophomore season last year, and assuming he again stays healthy, that pattern should continue. The Dolphins should be among the better offenses, with enough weapons on offense to keep the defense honest, opening opportunities. If they can return to scoring often, he should be a big part of that. Keep an eye on his role, but Achane should be a Top 10 RB with his potential, in all formats, by the time the dust settles on the season.
