While this is one of the four series that might not have the flash and superstars that the other three have, that doesn’t mean that this won’t be must watch television. The Detroit Tigers are the surprise team of baseball as they have a roster that is only owed $18 million this year and they beat the highly touted Astros. The Guardians are the most underrated team of baseball as they have gone under the radar with the amount of winning they’ve had this year. This should be a fun series to watch.
Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians DFS Start’em
Detroit Tigers OF Matt Vierling ($8,000 on DraftKings)
Vierling has been a player that is one of the most respected players in the league. Of the players on the youthful Detroit Tigers team, Vierling has some rare postseason experience after playing for the Phillies in 2022 and they went to the World Series. The Tigers centerfielder went two for 8 in the Wildcard series with Houston but he is one of the players who manager A.J. Hinch won’t pull from a game due to matchup.
Most of the players on the Tigers get pinched hit for because of matchup but Vierling is one of the more reliable players on the team. With both of those factors, that means to go with the player who you know will get at least four at bats in the ball game.
Cleveland Guardians 1B David Fry ($7,600 on DraftKings)
Fry has been the surprise of the year for the Guardians in 2014. The first baseman put up an All Star season which got him to the midsummer classic. Fry also ended the season on a high note as he hit .300 in the final seven games of the regular season. Matchups are tough in this game as this is a bullpen game for the Tigers so for DFS, you have to go with hitters on Cleveland who are on fire. Fry is among the players who are so ride with one of the best stories in baseball in 2024.
Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians DFS Sit’em
Detroit Tigers 1B Spencer Torkelson ($7,400)
The Detroit Tigers first baseman got a great highlight moment in making the catch to seal game one of the Wildcard series. Offensively, Torkelson left a lot to be desired as he was 0 for five in the series. The five at bats show that Torkelson is a player that only is in tge game due to matchup so DFS players won’t know how many times he will come up to hit.
It wasn’t a good year in general at the plate for the first baseman as he hit .219 with only 10 home runs. With a tough right handed starter on the mound, it is best to stay away from him.
Cleveland Guardians OF Jhonkensy Noel ($7,800 on DraftKings)
Noel is one of the most talented players on the team but he has not played like it in 2024. Noel finished the year with a .218 average with 13 home runs. Noel even ended his last 30 games hitting .185. The ceiling can be very high for production but without anything close to consistency, it’s hard to see in the near future for things to turn around. It feels like Noel will need an offseason to regroup in order to play to his full potential. For DFS players, that means don’t pull the trigger on a player who hasn’t shown fantasy owners to trust him right now.
