Davante Adams has been the reason so many fantasy owners lay claim to a championship title, and an equal number of fantasy owners hate his guts because he is the reason they don’t have a fantasy championship title. But what does Davante Adams’s fantasy outlook really look like as now a New York Jet, as well as beyond this current season? All that and more will be answered in the following 700 words.
Davante Adams’s Future In Fantasy
Davante Adams has shown year in and year out why he is among the elite names in the wide receiver position. But as of a few seasons ago, there has been a decline as age seems to catch up with him. The 31-year-old still poses a good fantasy value but his future as a New York Jet is dwindling and fast.
There is pause for a hopeful resurgence, as Davante Adams now has a high-quality quarterback throwing to him in former and current teammate Aaron Rodgers. But the remainder of the 2024 season will be heavily under a microscope for Adams, as his time for fantasy relevance is beginning to come to a close. The future is not a bright one at age 31, the only ray of hope is magic to happen between an aged quarterback and an aging wide receiver.
Davante Adams Outlook Past 2024
The outlook beyond this 2024 season is one of aging decline. Injuries are on the horizon as lingering hamstring issues will be more common, and it will not be as easy week to week to shake off the tough hits as Davante Adams did when he was younger. A counterpoint is there most likely will be relevance for one more year, but that is barring any injury from Rodgers, who is finding himself dealing with more and more nagging issues on and off the field.
In PPR formats, Adams will still get plenty of volumes as he will undoubtedly be the go-to guy. While this will prop up his floor, it just isn’t feasible to see Davante Adams breaking off those incredible double-digit runs after the catch we have gotten so accustomed to seeing. That is more for the young Garrett Wilson to do. For PPR formats, the outlook may go a bit beyond the 2025 season, but that is only if Davante Adams has a better-to-average, to-great quarterback throwing to him on a consistent basis.
Davante Adams Value
Value is in the eye of the beholder. Most Davante Adams owners will reject any and all trade offers that are not multiple ones and twos for the next few years. Or they won’t even consider it unless the other team’s top five best players are involved in the trade. This is an unrealistic view of who Davante Adams is as of right now and who he will be moving forward in dynasty football.
Many winters ago, yes this was fair value, but owners need to not look at what he did in the past but rather what is he doing right now. Right now Davante Adams is average, with only three games played this year, only one was Davante Adams of old with 100+ yards and a touchdown. The other two games were average at best. Going off the premise the hamstring injury is real and true then you also have a 31-year-old who is dealing with injury.
While the New York Jets offer a new ray of hope, owners need to be realistic about what they have. On a good day, Davante Adams would be worth at most a 2025 second-rounder, third-rounder on an average day. Player-wise, James Conner would be comparable. Just understand if you are going after Davante Adams, most owners will see his value as what he has produced in years past. If you are selling Adams, don’t be that guy thinking you deserve the world and you are taking the hit on the trade. 31, hurt and playing average- that is the current state of Davante Adams.
