Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints DFS Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em| September 15, 2024

Dak Prescott

On Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys (1-0) play host to the New Orleans Saints (1-0) inside AT&T Stadium. Both teams are coming off lopsided victories, as the Cowboys took down the Browns 33-17 in Cleveland and the Saints destroyed the Panthers 47-10 at home.

Dallas didn’t need to do much in offense as they were propelled by a KaVontae Turpin 60 yard punt return touchdown and good starting field position. New Orleans used a balanced passing and rushing attack to jump out to a 30-3 halftime lead and were never challenged by Carolina.

Here are a few of the players that we are leaning on heavily in this game. These players are in a good spot to put together a solid performance and have a favorable matchup.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings: $5.7K, Fanduel: $6.2K)

Zeke turned 10 carries into 40 yards and a touchdown last weekend against Cleveland. He led the team in carries and yardage, and even though the days of him breaking long runs are over, he has big-time touchdown potential. Over the last couple of seasons, Elliott has become a short yardage and goalline specialist. With his comparitively low price, Ezekiel Elliott has two touchdown upside and could lead you to some money.

Rashid Shaheed, WR, New Orleans Saints (DraftKings: $4.6K, Fanduel: $5.5K)

In week one, Derek Carr looked like a viable fantasy quarterback, and Rashid Shaheed was his favorite target throughout the day. Shaheed was tied with running back Alvin Kamara for the team lead with five targets. Shaheed also led the team with 73 yards and scored on a long touchdown. With most of the Cowboys’ focus likely on Kamara and wide receiver Chris Olave, Shaheed should continue to be a favorite of Card on Sunday.

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.

Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints (DraftKings: $6.4K, Fanduel: $6.7K)

As mentioned above, Kamara and Shaheed received the most targets last weekend. Chris Olave only saw two passes come his way. Even though he caught both targets, Olave on turned them into 11 yards. The Dallas defense will likely try to shutdown Olave and make others beat them down the field. Given his somewhat high price this weekend, I recommend staying away from Olave.

Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings: $2.9K, Fanduel: $4.8K)

Starting tight end Jake Ferguson is doubtful for Sunday after sustaining a knee injury last week against the Browns. Luke Schoonmaker will likely be the next man up against the Saints, but his low production over his short career is concerning. Rookie Brevyn Spanm-Ford could also eat into Schoonmaker’s snap count. With the uncertainty, it is awfully difficult to recommend him this week…even with his super low cost on DraftKings. Make him prove it this week before possibly buying in on him if Ferguson misses more time in the future.

Total Apex Lock of the Game

CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings: $8.8K, Fanduel: $9.1K)

CeeDee Lamb will always and forever be as close to a lock as there is. His target share is among the best in the NFL and opportunity is one of the most important factors in fantasy football. Last week, Lamb only saw 10 targets, but that was in a bit of a blowout against Cleveland. This week could be more of a shootout, so there should be no hesitation in firing up Lamb on Sunday.

Total Apex Fade of the Game

Taysom Hill, TE, New Orleans Saints (DraftKings: $3.9K, Fanduel: $5.2K)

Possibly the most schemed up player in the NFL, Taysom Hill has seen opportunities all over the field. From tight end and wide receiver to quarterback and running back, Hill is a Swiss Army Knife. With that said, his usage is very sporatic at times. Last week his main role was as a runner, running five times for 35 yards. The Saints also use multiple tight ends during the game. That type of production and lack of usage isn’t winning you money in DFS.

Conclusion

New Orleans saw the good version of Derek Carr last week against the lowly Panthers. This week should be a different story, as Dallas has one of the best defenses in the NFL. Alvin Kamara and fellow running back Jamaal Williams should see plenty of opportunity early with some occasional shots down the field for Rashid Shaheed.

On the Dallas side, CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott have a special on-field connection. As one of the best QB/WR duos in the league, stacking them with Ezekiel Elliott could be highly beneficial on Sunday. Last season, the Saints finished squarely in the middle of the league in team defense. Above average and better offenses could potentially take advantage of their average defense.
