Connor McDavid 2024-2025 Fantasy Outlook

connor mcdavid

Connor McDavid is arguably the best player in the entire NHL, his consistency since really entering the league as a teenager has been nothing short of remarkable. McDavid was selected 1st overall in 2015 by the Edmonton Oilers and has lived up to the hype ever since.

After finishing his junior hockey career, McDavid joined the Oilers for their 2015–16 season. Despite missing multiple months of his rookie season due to a fractured clavicle, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and was a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy. He eventually lost out to Blackhawks Rookie sensation Artemi Panarin.

On November 12th, 2023, the Edmonton Oilers fired coach Woodcroft. They replaced him with Kris Knoblauch, who had previously been McDavid’s coach with the Erie Otters. At the time of the coaching change, the Oilers had a 3–9–1 record.

Connor McDavid ended up with 32 goals, and 100 assists, in 72 games. McDavid is one of 4 players to put up 100+ Assists in a season alongside Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr. He was the highest touted prospect since Sidney Crosby was a teenager who played for the Erie Otters in the OHL.

Connor McDavid led the Edmonton Oilers to their first Stanley Cup appearance since 2006 when they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in 7 games.

A similar event happened this season, with the Edmonton Oilers falling in 7 games on the road, just like in 2006 to the Florida Panthers. McDavid became the 1st player to win the Conn Smythe award as a losing player in the Stanley Cup since Jean-Sébastien Giguère (Goalie) of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2003. He was only the 2nd forward to do it, after Reggie Leach in 1976.
