The Cleveland Guardians have taken the first two games in the series against the Detroit Tigers. Their pitching has limited the Tigers to just one run in 18 innings. Bats have woken up, and the Guardians have jumped out to an early lead in both games. Detroit looks to get back on track in game three of the series. They send Casey Mize to the mound, who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. Can Detroit get a win, or will Cleveland continue dominating the league’s best home team?

Key Stats
Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians are starting to get some production out of some key pieces. Leadoff hitter Steven Kwan went 3 for 5 last night, setting the tone for the offense. As a team, Cleveland was 3 for 9 with RISP. The offense has looked much better than it did last week. They are finally getting better production out of everyone in the lineup.
Left-hand Luis Ortiz takes the mound in game three of the series. His last two starts have been solid, putting his team in a position to win (even though both starts ended in a loss). Against the Cincinnati Reds, he threw for 5.0 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven. Against the Philadelphia Phillies, he pitched 6.0 innings, only giving up four hits and one earned run, while striking out nine. He will look to keep this Tigers’ offense at bay.
Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers’ could only push across one run in last night’s game. Spencer Torkelson continued his strong year with a solo home run, but he also struck out three times. The team was 0 for 8 with RISP. Being able to get the big hit in key moments has been the staple of the Tigers’ offense, but not in this series. The team did have three doubles on the night, but were unable to bring any of them across. The opportunities are there but the Guardians’ pitching has been elite in this series.
Right-hander Casey Mize will go for his seventh win on Saturday. The former number one overall pick has been one of the best stories this year. In his last start against the Colorado Rockies, he pitched 6.0 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run, while striking out eight. The Tigers have won their last four starts and look to make it five in a row.

Prediction
I’ve picked the Detroit Tigers the past two days and whiffed. Cleveland has looked good this series. Human nature says that I should go with the Guardians today, but that’s not how betting works. I’m riding the numbers yet again. Mize has been one of the best pitchers in the AL this year, and the Tigers’ offense has been too good this year to continue on this pace. Give me the Tigers to get one back in the series.
