Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians were led by the usual suspects last night in Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez. However, second baseman Angel Martinez gave the team a much-needed boost. He was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run. If the Guardians can get some production out of a few more players, this team could be very dangerous in the American League.
Right-hander Slade Cecconi takes the mound on Friday for his second start of the season. Last week against the Cincinnati Reds, he pitched 5.0 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs. He did strike out eight batters, showcasing his elite ability to make hitters swing and miss. He will look to build on that performance on Friday.
Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers’ were blanked at home, something that is hard to do this season. Detroit had its chances, but could only muster up five hits for the whole game. Weather likely played a factor, but the Tigers will need to have more timely hits for the rest of the series. Javier Baez continued his excellent season, going 2 for 3 in last night’s game.
Right-hander Jackson Jobe takes the mound for the Tigers. In his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays, he pitched 6.0 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs. The Tigers have won the last five starts Jobe has started and usually give their young pitcher quality run support.

The final score of last night’s game doesn’t show how close it was. The Cleveland Guardians scored four runs in the ninth inning after the bullpen almost blew the lead in the eighth.
