Chris Godwin 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Can Mr. Consistency Continue Producing?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin

Chris Godwin is entering his 8th season in the NFL, and as a seasoned vet, he is a guy you can trust in your fantasy lineup week in and week out. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted him in the third round of the 2017 draft and he has played for them his whole career. The former Penn State wide receiver has had a great career so far and will look to continue his success in 2024.

Since 2019, Godwin has had 1000 yards in 4 of 5 seasons. The only season he didn’t reach the 1000-yard benchmark was 2020 when he only played 12 games. Excluding 2020, Godwin has had 121+ targets, 86+ receptions, and 60+ yards per game. His fantastic consistency is a great attribute for a fantasy player to have.

Will Chris Godwin continue his success in 2024?

Chris Godwin stayed healthy in 2023, playing all 17 games for the Buccaneers. In those 17 games, he was targeted 130 times and caught 83 receptions. This comes out to a 63.8% completion rate, which is lower than in previous years. However, this is to be expected when going from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield. Chris accumulated 1024 yards, hitting 1000 yards for the 3rd season in a row. He only found the endzone twice in 2023.

In terms of fantasy stats, Godwin scored a total of 209.2 fantasy points and averaged 12.31 fantasy points per week. Godwin has not only been consistent from season to season but also game to game. He scored 7+ fantasy points in 16 of 17 games, 9+ fantasy points in 13 of 17 games, and double digits in 11 of 17 games. He scored the 29th most points by a wide receiver in 2023.

Chris Godwin 2024 Fantasy Outlook

This will be Chris Godwin’s second season playing with Baker Mayfield. Honestly, season one with Mayfield under center went really well. Godwin should only continue to get better as their chemistry builds.

According to Fantasy Pros, Godwin is projected to be the 90th overall pick and the 41st wide receiver off the board in a fantasy draft. In full PPR, his ADP is 60th overall, and he is the 36th-ranked wide receiver. In half PPR, his ADP is 64th overall and he is the 33rd-ranked wide receiver.

In 2024, Chris Godwin is projected to go for 1000-1100 total yards with 120-130 targets and 80-95  receptions. Since Godwin has been so consistent year to year, these projections should be very accurate. Touchdowns, on the other hand, have not been as consistent. Godwin is projected to score 3-6 touchdowns in 2024 while competing with Mike Evans for red zone targets.

Final Thoughts

Chris Godwin isn’t going to be the guy to get you 30 points one week, exploding for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns in one game. Don’t expect him to be your X factor. However, Chris Godwin is never going to lose you the week. You are going to get a solid 9-15 points from Godwin every week.

This is not a bad thing, especially for a guy who is projected to be a 5th or 6th-round pick in PPR drafts. He is a great value pick who you know is going to produce and get you 1000 yards and 85 receptions a season. He is being drafted around Xavier Worthy, Keon Coleman, and Rome Odunze, who are all rookies and unproven. Why not take the guy who is a proven talent?
